Definitely hoping your next test is definitive and not problematic. Thinking of you. Waiting is hard!

Yeah, I've had a bunch of tests too. Sometimes the simplest is the answer.

Really easy. They give you a sterile cup. I took it home because I cough up guck in the morning. Just cough, spit it in, do that several times. Put the lid on, and return it to the lab. They grow the guck in a petrie dish, and tell the doctor what bacteria grew.

You'd think they'd do this before all the x-rays and stuff - it's so much easier, and probably less expensive too!!!

I think that's what happened to me too - picked up this bacteria that started out as something like a cold. Got over that part of it, but then had a couple of days when I ran a fever and ached all over - happened 2 or 3 times, a month apart. And the cough stayed through the whole thing.

So when I saw my dr, I asked if maybe it was some low-grade infection that would come and go, but not permanently leave. That's why she sent me to my asthma dr, who decided to do all the testing.

Worth asking your dr for a sputum culture - sometimes it's the only way to identify what's going on inside your lungs.

Is it a dry cough, or a tickle-y cough, or are you coughing up guck? I was coughing up more and more yuck, plus had occasional fevers - plus my two drs didn't like the sound of my lungs. Did the same sort of tests you've had - chest x-ray, nasal x-ray, breathing into tubes for a variety of tests, and some bloodwork checking allergy levels. Finally, the asthma dr said let's do a sputum culture, and that's when they found this creepy bacteria. So apparently I had this since late January or so, when it all started.

So depending on the kind of cough you have, maybe your dr would be willing to do a sputum sample and see if you have some bacteria that have moved it?

But yes, getting old is not fun.
