This is by way of announcing that I'm leaving I already left the group on facebook. I feel like a lone fish swimming upstream. I know that eating fat causes us to remain fat, and that's the bottom line. I know that my diet, the McDougall diet, is not one of those weirdo crackpot diets nor a fad, and it's not for just a little while and then I get to go back to eating S.A.D. (standard american diet). I know that diseases in the US are skyrocketing as a direct result of the national epidemic addictions to fat, salt, meat, dairy, and refined sugar. I can no longer support this group, knowing that it promotes unhealthy eating.
There is nothing good about expecting people to lose weight by going hungry. There is nothing good about expecting people to ignore that complex carbs are what fill us up and give us the energy we need for any demand we may put upon our bodies. There is nothing good about becoming a nation of fat people who obsess 24/7 about food, and that's exactly what happens when people are expected to count calories, portion their food, weigh everything, combine this and that, etc. I find that the longer I remain on sparkpeople, the less I actually have in common with anyone else except perhaps the 5 other starchivores, and believe me, I get lots more support and information elsewhere. I've met some very nice folks on this site, and I wish them every bit of success and happiness as I've gained by becoming a starchivore.
