Revelation - I have come to realize that this is really about changing your life style. It's not just about losing weight and fitting into cute outfits. This is a life journey! I've realized that I can overcome this. The circumstances are different and I just had to adapt! There are fresh vegetables & fruits available in local markets (tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, carrots). I make fresh salads, home-cooked meals and eat at home. Control my portion. Cook in large batches. Drink lots of water. I got some dvd so I'm using Turbo Fire and starting p90x next week. I found zumba in town and also hot yoga as well. I realize that it's about the choices you make. It's easy to attribute the difficulties in changing your life style to circumstances around you. It's ESPECIALLY easy when it's a different country. But it's about the choices and making that attempt to change. Although I do miss the variety I have back home (strawberries, broccoli, brussel sprouts, nectarines)... But you just have to make the best out of the experience!
Hi! My name is Joanna and I'm an expat living in Abuja, Nigeria. I've been living here now for 14 months. I've grown to love the culture, people, weather and food here. I used to be on SP before I moved and managed to lose about 40 pounds.

But I've fallen off the wagon. I have stopped tracking calories and exercising. With moving to a new environment and country, I have to adjust my diet completely and having new ways to eat healthy and do exercise.

With a new year and 5 months until I hit the big 3-0. I have decided to get back onto SP. (thanks for work for upgrading the internet! we used to have terrible internet connection. I also treated myself to a blackberry - therefore I have made a commitment to track calories with my phone) - NO EXCUSES!!!

I'm a foodie. Everyone who knows me well know that I love to cook and browse foodie blogs. With living here in Nigeria - I found that I can get a lot of fresh ingredients. Granted most food that I get here are not ready made, as if I'm back in the US. I know that can make things from scratch - that means I know what ingredients go into my food!

I'm determined to eat well with proper proportion. Using the fresh ingredients that I can get here. Exercise. Have a positive attitude.

My goal is to get down to 145 lbs.

192 lbs! I can't believe it! That means 23 lbs are GONE FOREVER! no intention of finding them again :)

But things have been slowing down for a little bit. I went back to China with my family for 2 weeks. While I didn't gain any weight, I certainly didn't lose any either. Much thanks to lots of walking and climbing up the Great Wall! I should be thankful that I didn't gain much weight during that time.

Anyways, I was struggling with jetlag and starting a new job so I just end up limiting my portions and keeping my calories range in check. Hence the scale kind of stop going down. But I am back and now joined a new gym! Thanks to SP! I love reading different sparkpages and getting myself motivated!

Goal right now. To get down to 180lbs by Halloween! Here we go!

7/2009 - Intro
I've been struggling with my weight almost my whole life. I joined SP about 2 years ago and had success in losing 10 lbs or so. But then with life, laziness and grad school, I just totally gave into my cravings and gain back all those weight, and then more! Someh ow something just clicked in me in July and I'm now committed to have a healthy lifestyle. I have decided to slow down and decided to pay attention to myself. Encouragement will be much needed along the way :)
