Introduction Text My name is Laura -- wife and mother of one. I've always been a 'big' girl, I'm 6' tall and built very sturdy which makes losing weight feel like it takes forever. From 2004 to 2006 I had lost nearly 50 pounds and barely went down one pant size. It's not what I feel as major success but I've come to realize, it's not about what size your pants are but how you feel about yourself and the quality of your life and health! Right now, my quality of life has been horrible. In 2013, my doctors finally listened to me when I told them something was wrong. I had half of my thyroid removed (only because it was obstructing my trachea) where they found 2mm of malignant cancer. 2 doctors later, I kept mentioning my issue of having hypoglycemic spells and possible PCOS. I was having issues with not even being able to do 8 minutes of sustained exercise without getting a migraine! My current doctor didn't act on anything until my a1c was 7.1 which by his standards is out of the insulin resistant phase and into diabetes... but only put me on metformin. He "apologized" for the bad news, but I refuse to let it be a sentence. I see it as him finally giving me the tools I need to actually get somewhere in this weightloss journey. My next appointment is May 1st. By that time I am looking to blow him out of the water. My current goal is to get to 300lbs (36 lb goal) and exceed his 6.5 a1c lab result (SUCCESS! 4/23/17 - Lab result: 5.9!). I also wish to bike to my appointment too (about 3.5 miles one way). I am currently at 310. 26 pounds down and 10 to go with 1.5 months to go until my next appointment with him. I am currently (as of 3/12/17) a pound under my target weight for this time frame. I have also been going to the gym with my kiddo too. So she is learning more about this journey - and pushing me to keep going as well. Goals: 300lbs - 9/19/2017 275lbs - 8/15/2019 250lbs - 225lbs - 200lbs - Below 6.5 a1c - MET! 4/23/17 Test results: 5.9! In "normal" range (below 5.7) - 10/16 - 5.6!!! Off Metformin - Back on my bike - (In progress, need to get it fixed first. Anyone want to help me fund this?)

Current goal: 275. 24 lbs away (37 lbs lost) less than 5.7 a1c Long term goal: 200, will be broken down into 25lb at a time. Normal a1c. Off Metformin.

Low GI/GL diet (nixing the high carb, sugar and starches while keeping some - up to 15g per meal paired with good fats, proteins, and dietary fiber), breaking meals down to 6 smaller meals a day spread out over the day (purpose: to minimize large spikes and drops in blood glucose), apartment complex fitness center (mostly the recumbent bike with a bit of weights for the upper body), walking kiddo to and from bus stop (only a quarter mile, but I walk it 4x a day, 5x a week!).

I'm 37 and I am a recent widow and a mother of 1.

I love to write and draw. I hold a BS degree in Film and Video Productions. I used to work for a CBS station as the head news video editor but gave it up for now to be a stay at home mom. When my kiddo entered into school, I picked up a part time job at Uhaul. Worked there for 2.5 years until I couldn't manage the balancing act of work/school/someone being at home for the kid/dinners. Fortunately, my dad offered me a possible job that took off! I am now working from home and matching (and at times exceeding) what I made at Uhaul with so much less stress!
