My Next 30 Years . . .
7 years later . . .
It's been almost 7 years since I first started SparkPeople. I was pretty successful, and then I just stopped and gained everything back. I had a baby 8 months ago and was at my lowest weight (155) I thought that I would finally be able to get to a better weight, especially because I was breastfeeding. Unfortunately, I've gained almost 30 pounds (182) since the baby was born. I was inactive, eating junk food, and not really trying to lose weight. I'm honestly shocked ...

I'm honestly shocked by how fast I gained that weight. I'm devastated by the way I look. I hate having my picture taken because I am so fat. This makes me sad because I want to capture these memories with the baby--he's growing so fast. I also want to be a good example for my son. I don't want him to grow up with my unhealthy habits of drinking soda, craving junk food, and not being active. I want him to think that I'm beautiful, to be proud of me, and to want to be like me. I want to think those things about myself too.
I feel like it's going to be different this time. I know I'm going to have ups and downs and setbacks. But I need to keep tracking my food and keep exercising. I actually like to run, I just need to motivate myself to do it. I never finish a run and think "I wish I didn't do that today". I'm running the WDW Half Marathon in January 2017. I don't have a specific goal weight--I just want to weigh less, look better, and run better. Here we go again!
4 years later . . .
I'm not on track at all. I did lose 18 pounds in 3-4 months that year, and then I stopped tracking--and gained the weight back. When I think back, it really wasn't that difficult to track my food and I was very successful despite being in a very stressful graduate program.
I started seeing a personal trainer twice a week in August 2013. We do upper/lower strength training. However, I wasn't losing ANY weight. So, my husband and I started running (well, a run/walk) in October. Originally, to train for a 10k. But then we decided to sign up for a half marathon in February. We have been successful at running 2-3 days a week. Even with the added cardio, I haven't been losing weight. I know all I have to do is track my food, but I guess I'm scared. Of what, I have no idea. I did it before and I don't remember it being very difficult. I still ate the foods I liked, drank beer, and went out to restaurants. So, I've decided to start tracking again. So here it goes . . .
Original post in November 2009:
I recently found out that I have very high cholesterol and I'm only 30. Everything was bad (high total cholesterol, high LDL, high trigs, and low HDL).
I've tried to lose weight in the past, but without much success. I think this is finally the turning point where I realized that my health really was in jeopardy and that it's not just about aesthetics anymore.
I've started to follow a low cholesterol diet, which really means low fat. I'm trying to watch my portion size, so I'm measuring EVERYTHING. I've also started to exercise regularly (3+ times/week).
My main goal is to reduce my cholesterol by my next doctor's visit in February. Obviously I want to lose weight as well. I'm starting with small weight loss goals, but ultimately I want to weigh less than my husband (145 lbs).

I feel like we are twins, probably not a good thing for either one of us! We can do this, though!
