i've joined sp in an attempt to be motivated. i've studied health in college (heck, i even have a degree in health promotion) so i KNOW what i should be doing. the problem is actually DOING it. to show our love and respect for each other, my new hubby and i are taking the steps to become healthier together. we don't want to just lose weight, although that is a big part. he was as thin as a rail before he came to the US. he's gained almost 100 pounds in the past 3 years...which has caused MAJOR health problems, including high blood pressure. i, on the other hand, have always been on the chunkier side. i have a large frame anyway, but would look much better (and appear a lot taller) if i were at least 30 pounds lighter. i don't want to be model thin, but i do want to be healthy and prevent some of the major health issues that my family has dealt with (including diabetes). hubby and i want to learn how to make the correct choices in life RIGHT NOW so that we can prolong our lives and pass on healthy habits to our children (when we decide to take that step).

including physical healthiness, we want to become more healthy mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and environmentally. it's a pretty big step, but with the support of one another, God, and all of my soon-to-be amazing friends on sparkpeople, we can get through this thing, and look and feel great about ourselves!

My Program:
i don't currently have any set program. we just eat healthier, low-sodium foods with as much fiber as we can get. i need slightly less carbs, he needs slightly less meat, and we both need more fruit and veggies. our only exercise plan right now is to get out and move during free times. our community is great for that...read below. (we did have a gym membership, but due to lack of finances, we had to freeze it. i would like to join curves some day. i think it would motivate me better, and it's closer to my house and job.)



Personal Information:
hubby and i are from myrtle beach, south carolina. we love it here. we live practically right on the beach (great for long walks!) in a campground that's got a swimming pool, basketball court, and sand volleyball. there's also a beautiful bike path that runs along a golf course several miles long that we love to use for bike riding and/or walking. sometimes we use it to walk to wal*mart or the outlet stores (a couple miles away) for light or window shopping....


Other Information:
i love to read. unfortunately, i haven't found a way to incorporate reading into my exercise. i may have to look into downloading audio books from itunes and listen to them while i'm walking or something on my own. i just never really liked audio books...i prefer to hold the books, smell the pages, and READ the words! i also love music, which motivates me to move...
