I am trying to make a change to a healthy lifestyle and gain some fitness for myself and my family in the process!

My Goals:
I have a Spark People theory that I am best-off measuring my progress in terms of specific, daily lifestyle actions rather than even the traditional "non-scale" signals such as how my clothes fit. I know that, for this to work, it's my everyday choices that need to be health-promoting and that's what I am trying to focus on and to reward.

My Program:

Keep your thoughts positive, because your thoughts become your words!

Keep your behavior positive, because your behavior becomes your habits!

In the last few months, the changes that were a challenge for me in the beginning have begun to feel like second nature.

I love how my lifestyle makes me feel about myself. I love that I can do so much more exercise than when I started and I can see the definition starting to happen all over my body.

I love that I have time now for exercise and look forward to my workouts (most of the time!) and enjoy them as they happen.

I love that my feet hurt so much less already and that I never feel like an invalid anymore. I love that "things" are getting done around the house and yard because I have so much more energy to take care of them.

Most of all, I love that I have learned to enjoy preparing and serving food in all its wonderful glory and no longer use it to abuse myself.

I haven't always had the most self esteem, and now I feel great. I can do it!!!

Other Information:
I was not expecting, but have been pleasantly surprised by:

- feeling happier more of the time; more interest in doing more things more hours per day in general
- stronger, smoother, more relaxing experience when riding my motorcycle
- feeling content with eating less and craving healthier food choices; not being thrown off by "bad" foods others have around me & being able to taste treats without going off-track
- less "umgh" when bending over
- being able to walk daily (and even run some!) without my foot pain being an issue

    Interesting notes came in some SP e-mails today:

    When you're at the top of your game, your body uses up nutrients as fast as you can put them in. Starving yourself, even for a little while, takes your flame down a notch or two and is a very bad idea for your health. And without real nutritional value, junk food is just as useless as no food at all. A healthy, balanced diet is like a constant power boost to your health!


    Taking two steps forward

    Slow and steady has not always been an inspiring concept. It's not as sexy as speed and sharp turns of direction. But it may be just the thing to keep you from running out of gas, while still moving you forward. Abe is telling us that the most important thing is to keep walking forward, no matter how slowly. Sometimes slowness can be frustrating. You might become impatient; you might get discouraged with a setback. But a setback doesn't have to set you back. Simply using it as a learning opportunity can leapfrog you ahead again. From now on, try paying attention more to your direction and less to your speed. Be patient, focus on a little bit at a time, and soon enough, you'll be further than you ever thought. Besides, it's a good bet that by always looking forward, Abe rarely looked back in regret.
