This is the mean of yoga:

a Hindu spiritual and ascetic discipline, a part of which, including breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures, is widely practiced for health and relaxation. ...... So this is a fitness workout, maybe you don't burn as much calories as bootcamp, or kickboxing, but this is a workout..

I don't pay attention at all to the calorie counts in my workout tracker so I do track yoga - even though the yoga I do is the restorative kind that isn't burning a lot of calories. For me, the tracker is about tracking the exercise I do and staying on track. I've set my cardio goals which is what affects my nutrition tracker, but flexibility is an important part of fitness and I absolutely track it.

FWIW, I the yoga I used to pick had a minimal calorie burn so it didn't really affect much calorie-wise - much like my strength training selection. Especially compared to what I burn running.

Yoga counts.

I do some relaxation poses to release the tension in my muscles, and I also do gentle stretching yoga.

this is the level that I'm at, as my back pain flared up recently and I have to slowly rehab it back to health, AGAIN.

It depends on what type of yoga you're doing. There are some yoga classes that can be extremely intense. There are also yoga classes that focus more on breathing and meditation. I consider yoga an "active" recovery. It's something I do to be active during the day, but it's not so intense that I feel drained by the end of the class. yoga is a restorative activity for me. that's why it counts.

How do I log it ? I just log it under minutes. I don't worry about the calorie burn. Yoga is something I do as a compliment to all my other activities.

If you find yoga relaxing, you're doing it wrong.

I track yoga for the minutes. I don't mess with the calories it suggests, but my reason is that SP underestimates my calories burned during cardio according to my HRM, but I still use the SP generated calories burned, so I figure it isn't going to hurt if it overestimates my yoga calories. In general, I don't focus as much on calories burned as many people do because I figure if I'm consistently getting in activity, I am burning calories; my weight loss is evidence of that, so my goal is to continue moving. Track it, don't track it, track it for minutes with no calories, or whichever else works best for you and your goals.

I guess it depends on what you mean by relaxation.

If you are just sitting in a quiet place and meditating--no.

I think that consistency matters, since you aren't really comparing yourself to anybody else. As long as you are counting it in the same way all of the time so that YOU can track what you are doing...that is probably fine.

If you are doing yoga probably shouldn't call it yoga. You can create your own category in fitness minutes and label it how you wish, 0 calories/hour.

Count it for minutes - it is part of your whole body healthy plan.

Don't try to count its calorie burn. It is insignificant.

Do you count your relaxation as yoga? now when I say yoga, I am NOT recording this as cardio, I am counting this as sparkpeople minutes. Would love to know.
