I agree with the previous posters who said that you don't necessarily need 8 cups per day. If you're not thirsty and your urine is pale yellow, you are sufficiently hydrated.

There is no real substance in the dictum to drink 8 glasses of water a day, other than water has no calories and no additives.
Be guided by thirst, and also the colour of your urine. If it is clear, cut back on fluid a little; if it is dark, drink more.
We get a lot of fluid in the foods that we eat - especially fruits and veges. Even cheese has fluid! Milk, tea, juice, jelly, coffee, etc. etc. all count as fluid - just don't overdo caffeine or sugars.
Where it comes to you are working, it would be helpful if you had access to water if you need it - taking a water bottle will help prevent possible dehydration.
8 glasses are not 'required'. It is more of a guideline. I drink to thirst, some day I drink 4 glasses, other days it's closer to 12, all depending on a lot of factors. Don't forget the water consumed by eating, especially fruit and veggies!!

Thank you for the tips! Looking back at today, I spent almost all of my day outside doing farm work or mowing. I should have taken some water out with me for sure. I don't mind the taste of water at all. I rather like it-- I'd rather drink water than diet soda any day!
This doesn't solve the whole problem, but I find it helpful to bring water with me wherever I go. I like to use chilled bottled water and if I have any left over when I get home and it's not cold, I put it back in the fridge and gather another one, and keep switching out. Sometimes I get all my water in, sometimes not, but at least it does help. Otherwise one can forget to drink! Maybe it comes from working outside for so many years that it's just become a habit for me. You can always flavor it if you don't like the taste of it it.
I always keep a water bottle with me and just make it a habit to drink whether I feel thirsty or not. Also I enjoy sparkling water, hot water with lemon and drinking water in a cup with a straw. Most days especially in the summer I am easily able to get my 8 glasses in today so far I have had 10. Best of luck to you !

Does anyone have any tips for getting the required 8 glasses of water per day for this newbie? I have tried, I'm just not that thirsty, so I forget to drink!
