I agree with both previous posters. Take something very healthy and filling to snack on, and then, if you need something sweet, maybe take one of the 100 calorie packs of light cookies or something that Nabisco (I think) makes. It still isn't great, but at least you won't completely derail your goals with one little binge.

MissRuth had a good idea, which I was considering before reading her post.

Definitely plan ahead and take snacks with you the next time.
You can do it, with a bit of planning.

As your header said - tying to take care of yourself is a priority, no matter what else invades

I think we all hit bumps in the road where something stressful or whatever, can derail us. The biggest thing is just to pick yourself right back up, and get back on track.

And also-- I always try to learn something from my "slips". For example, now that you know that stuff with your mom is stressful, can you (next time) go armed with a Tupperware container of cut-up raw vegetables, and then just eat all of those instead of malted milk balls? A large pack of sugarfree gum? They make flavors like apple pie now. A couple bottles of flavored (no sugar added) water? Instead of just saying, I will not eat when I'm stressed-- sometimes I have to just admit to myself that I AM going to eat, so it would be beneficial to at least change what I'm eating to something that's a better choice.

Obviously, there are other ways to handle stress-- but when you're "stuck" in a meeting you can't very well get up and take a walk or soak in a hot bubble bath. So a plan is needed in advance of the next time.

i started out the day eating fairly well, treated myself to a hair color appt (even though it wasnt glamorous - it was at a local tech school because i cant afford anywhere else), and then had to go to my mom's to hear about services that are available to her. it was a good meeting, i'm glad i was there,,,,, but, it stressed me out and i ate bunches of malted milk balls during the 2 hour meeting.

it's awfully hard to take good care of myself while trying to also take good care of my mom.

i know about all the right things to do, keep alternate plans available to combat overeating etc, but, when the anxiety hit, all of that went right out the window.
