coming from someone that has had surgery, I can tell you it isn't for everyone. you have to do what is right for you.

I did it because regular diet and exercise didn't work for me (who the heck gains 40 pounds working out 5x's a week and only eating a max of 1500 calories?)

Surgery or not, it all comes down to changing your lifestyle. I eat around 1200 calories a day, and workout and train most days of the week.

Surgery is only a tool to help you along your journey. I compare it to a hammer... by itself it is useless, but in the hands of someone who knows how to use it, the hammer can do wonderful things.

Thank you for the thoughts. I hope that they don't gain it back but I do know that some are not ready for the journey. I'm young and want to be able to have kids. My doctor told me that my weight is probably why I haven't gotten pregnant. I've always wanted to be a mom so I knew that I needed to do this. Thanks for the replies !

ive known a couple people who have also had surgery and still struggle with the stuff with-in that got them heavey in the first place. im with you, i have a road ahead of me and had thought myself of doing the surgey but have decided to do it by diet and exercise.
i also am a firm believer in taking it off myself,,, its hard but i know i can do it and if you set your mind to doing it, you can as well !

I am just going to put out there that I work in a general surgeons office and he does bariatric procedures. I've noticed that about half of the patients he sees end up gaining the weight back, largely because they did not learn how to eat properly before the surgery and once they loose the weight, they go back to eating how they used to.

I commend you on taking the time test routine of being healthier! Honestly, my experiences at work lead me to believe that GBS was not for me, either!

They may have rapid weight loss but that doesn't teach them the tools to maintain. A slower journey will help you learn so when you reach your goal weight you'll know how to stay there.

* Don't compare yourself to them. When they brag just smile and compliment them sincerely. They are on their journeys, you are on yours.

* Keep the end goal in mind - health. Your weight might come off more slowly, but you are doing it in a healthy, maintainable way.

* Make choices that make you happy. Surgery forces drastic changes; you can change gradually, at your own pace, and be comfortable with where you are.

Most of all - be proud of your progress. No one can take that away from you.

I have a few friends and family that are all having bariatric surgery in the next few months. I feel like their rapid weightloss will make me feel less motivated. Any ideas? To me, surgery isn't the answer. I know I can do this but I have a few friends who brag about their weightloss ( which they should! They look amazing! ) But it does bring me down. Any ideas to not let that hinder me on my journey?
