JOSEE, like what was mentioned above by SP COACH DENISE, if the recipe says it's 4 servings, then you take what you make and divide it into 4 equal parts. Something like Shepherd's Pie should be very easy to divide. If you wanted to get very technical, you can weigh the whole thing (minus the weight of the dish it's in), and then divide that by 4. So say it weighs 20 ounces, it would be 4 5oz servings.

Im having the same problem, love the recipes but not many tell you what the serving size is. Just saw one for shephards pie which is made the way I normally do, tells me the calories but no erving size, can be frustrating dont really want to play the guessing game due to trying to stay on track.....BTW the recipe is the very first one when you look up Shephards Pie, if anyone knows the serving size just say serves 4

I have the recipe for easiest holiday cookies with nutritional info for servings per recipe 72. How do you know what the serving size really is for amount per serving? Anybody please, it is a sparkpeople recipe
If they don't list the size of the portion, you would need to do your best to divide that recipe into equal parts of the number of servings it says. Say a casserole dish says it has 6 servings, you would do your best to cut it into 6 equal sized servings. Sometimes when you are dealing with liquid, it is difficult to say specifically how much is in a serving because if you cook it less time or more time than what is originally called for (or even have any variance in what you added to the recipe), the serving size can easily vary with just a few things like that.
I know it probably isn't the answer you were looking for, but it's the best advice I can give on the portion sizes for recipes.
