Trying to push too fast when you're not ready for it can result in cramping in your calfs.

That said, I stretch frequently during walks / jogs. As was mentioned earlier - be sure to warm up first before stretching... meaning walk for maybe 5 to 10 minutes before you do your stretches, and if you start to feel that burning sensation during the rest of your walk, slow down and give your calfs another good stretch. It should help.

For the calf pain, try walking in shoes with a low heel and a thin, flexible sole, such as Keds or Converse. The raised heel and rigid sole of most athletic shoes makes the calves work harder.

Also do this calf stretch for 20 seconds hourly, and right before your walk:

These should help, but if they don't, see a doctor.

I'm also going through the same thing with a sore tailbone after a workout.
It hurts for days after I run.
Maybe our bodies are just adjusting to getting in shape.

Make sure you're warming up before doing any kind of stretch. Also make sure you're wearing shoes that fit properly and aren't worn out. Bad shoes can give you all kinds of aches and pains. You might find that the longer you stay in a regular walking routine, the easier it becomes to speed up without discomfort.

Second the shoe thing. Good shoes are sooooo important. If the pain continues you should see your Dr. My mysterious come and go foot pain turned into horrible plantar fasciitis and I ended up having foot and calf surgery and in a boot cast thing for 1 1/2 yrs.

I stretch and it feels like things are loosening up, but then once I get into walking laps the calf pain shows up. I guess I will just have to walk slower because slowing down eased the pain and once I was done i could just slightly feel it

Where exactly is the pain? Are you doing a good warm up before your walk? Are you wearing shoes that fit properly and aren't worn out?

I don't have pain while walking to a building, etc. I've rarely ever done cardio/ leg exercises until recently and today(also when I tried walking last summer), I start to have pain in the leg. One time(last time I ever walked 1.5 miles on concrete), I had a burn in the legs that didn't go away until the next night.

Today, I walked about 3 miles(12 laps) on a track, but the pain started in my leg after the second lap. I walked at the same pace with my friend until eventually I just started slowing down. Once I reached a much slower pace, I was able to continue last 7 laps with minimal pain.

I just want to know am I not stretching properly? Is there something I can do to avoid this pain? My friend wants to walk again tomorrow, but I'm not sure if I should avoid using my legs tomorrow and do strength instead
