I missed your solution when I first wrote my reply, but I'll post it anyway. This issue challenges me, too. I feel your pain.

I also try to keep low calorie snacks around. Sometimes I just need to munch. Other times I am truly hungry but I don't want to go over my calorie limit.

Although I dislike sugar substitutes, I have the packaged sugar-free jello for 10 calories available all the time. I have also used sugar-free Popsicle for 15 calories, and pickles for muchies. Fresh veggies would work too. I like hummus and carrots, too.

Now that the winter is over, I think I will go on my deck for a distraction. Take a nature break. Although spending time with a teenager is a great idea. I have two of them at home.

Boredom eating gets me, too!

I find that doing something to get me up and moving (cleaning, folding laundry, playing with cats, sparkpeople 10 minute workout video, etc). It helps to get my mind right and they keep my hands busy so I am not mindlessly eating.

Finding your thing may take some trial and error, but be persistent. Rome wasn't built in a day, after all.

If you are hungry rather than bored, then EAT. We have all been over in calories at times while on this journey, and in fact, I actually factored it into my weight-loss calories. I allowed myself one day per every two weeks to eat whatever I wanted. Sometimes the calories were 1,000 more than the day's normal allowance, but the point is, it helped me to stay on track because I didn't get bored or feel deprived. I reached my goal by losing a bucket load of weight, and have been maintaining for over 2 years. I now give myself permission to eat whatever I want on a weekly basis and the rest of the time I eat as per normal weight-loss range. Sometimes I can go a couple weeks but then other times it might be a couple times in a week. You won't jeopardize your efforts so long as you are mindful of what you eat the majority of the time.

The munchies are the worst and when you cant just get up and get away from the temptation its easy to give in to them. Not sure where you are but a walk but be away to get your mind away from it. Try putting on a movie or a favorite tv show and do some stretches to it. Eating something low cal wouldn't be a bad idea just to keep your tummy happy, the apples are a great idea or even carrots. I hope this helps and I hope things go ok tonight!

Take some online polls or play some online games. That can sometimes make the time fly. Also, make sure to eat something filling yet low calorie. Some sliced turkey with a glass of skim milk, an apple and an ounce of cheese, even a bowl of cereal with skim milk. All of the choices are about 250 calories, nutritious and filling. I find that if I don't eat for a span of time...I lose control and end up binging.

Also, today was a stressful day so...give yourself the mental peace because you need that. Tomorrow is a new day and today being a few hundred calories over goal is not going to cause you to gain. Also, take the stairs tomorrow...park a little further when you go to the gym...if you have to take the bus, get off two blocks before your normal stop.

Hope these tips help.

Hang in there and not that you can do this. As long as we try to be healthy 80% of the time, we have a little wiggle room as long as it does not knock us off track.

I hope all is well!

My car died, and I found myself at home two hours earlier than planned with no ride to the gym. I had my afternoon snack, and tried to read. then I decided I need tea, and ate a packet of biscuits. then, an hour before I usually eat dinner, I ate pasta. I tracked it all, and now I am 100 over my calorie range ( that's the bisquits) and I have hours to go before bed. I have PMS munchies and don't feel like doing any projects. I need distraction, and thought the message board would help.
