Having explored diabetic recipes for years, I've concluded that there are 2 primary schools of thought about healthy eating for diabetics. One is a balanced low fat diet; the other is low carb.
My spouse and I are both diabetic. I eat low carb and remain off any medication. My husband's doc sent him to a nutritionist who taught him low fat and whole grains. He lost weight but can't control blood sugar without medication.

I found low carb recipes and techniques a long time ago from a group called Specific Carb Diet and Dr. Bernstein's.

I love Spark Recipes because I can find both low carb recipes and low fat recipes. There's an option to tweak a found recipe and make it closer to what you specifically need. I've used that quite a bit.

Yeah, we need some really good diabetic cookbooks! emoticon

ALL of the ones I've looked at are HIGH in carbs and seem to include sugar, bread or pasta in EVERY recipe.

You would be suprised how many low carb recipes there are on spark recipes. You can create your own online cook book.

Great idea! In the meantime, sparkrecipes has some great recipes that are either diabetic or low carb. I did a search for diabetic:

Also join some teams that are low carb or diabetic related.

It is a new experience learning to eat the diabetic was. We are fortunate that sparkpeople has so much support and a resource center.

I absolutely love the Spark People cookbook. My husband is a newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic. I would greatly appreciate a Spark People cookbook which is low in carbohydrates.
I am hoping Chef Meg could do this for those who need specialized recipes. Thoughts?
