The bottom line is that motivation comes from within. Sometimes another person can inspire us, or what they do or say sets an example that lights a little spark inside of us, to where we want to do/have/be what they've got. But just because someone "ought" to do something, doesn't mean they're ready to put forth the time or energy, or have the inclination, to change.
You said yourself, you haven't been on Spark in a year til this week. You knew Spark was here. You just weren't ready yet. And just because you're ready, doesn't mean anyone else in your family is too. Even if it seems like they *ought* to be.
Like others have said, your best bet is to talk them about your goals, and enlist their support. And be a good example-- by watching you losing weight and getting fit, it might inspire one or more of them to join you.
You can't make them want to do this. However, a little peer pressure sometimes gets people started for the wrong reason and hopefully they can continue for the right reason. That worked for me. I lost weight the first time as part of a Biggest Loser contest at work. My competitive spirit got me started and then interest in my health kept me going. What motivates your family to do other things? Is it competition? Is it rewards? Is it a deadline? Everyone is motivated by something, you just have to find what it is and tap into that.

like others have said you can't force it on them- what you CAN do is sit down with everyone and talk about your goals and concerns- why you want to change your habits and start making healthier choices. you can invite them to join you, but at least by explaining what you are doing you can try to get support from them- even if they don't join in!

You can't force others to take your path in this healthy lifestyle journey - it comes down to choices - THEIR choices, and YOUR choices. They are totally responsible for their own actions or lack, thereof!
I would strongly suggest that the best way to motivate them is by example. When they start to see the positive results with you, it may cause them to re-think, but if they don't then that is THEIR choice! THEY know the consequences.
You can't really motivate others or force them to change.
The best thing you can do is set a good example. Show them that healthy living makes you feel good. The next best thing is for you not to engage in any unhealthy behaviors with them. If they invite you along to eat fast food, say you'll stay home to make a salad. If they want to sit and watch TV all night, do yoga during the commercial breaks.

Before this week, I havent been on this in about a year. Now, I know I need to be on here for what's best for me. My family should be trying to get healthy too but they don't have the motivation.
My dad needs to because of his cholesterol and because he is at risk for heart disease. My little brother needs to because at the rate he's going- he's going to have diabetes very soon. My mom needs to because she needs to get healthy.
We all are overweight except for my little sister and one of my little brothers.
I need to find a way not to be motivated for me, but for my family to get motivated to do this journey with me. Any ideas?
