I don't like to use them because of all the "junk" they have in them (chemicals, artificial sweetners, etc.)
Instead, I put a slice of fruit in my water... a lime or lemon wedge, a slice or two of strawberry, or a couple of blackberries. It gives just enough flavor so that it isn't plain water, but without all the yucky stuff in the packets.

I don't think sugar substitutes are very good for the body (especially when used in excess) but on the other hand, the flavour packets help some people to get in more water. Make sure you use them in moderation and you'll be fine. I use one every morning because I can't drink plain water in the morning for some reason!
Also, if you use other products that contain sugar substitues (baking, yogurt, etc) make sure that you keep an eye on how much you are consuming in total.
That's the only way I get my water down. I flavor all my water except when I'm having water during a workout.

agree with last poster- personally, i try to stay away from sugar but also most of the sugar substitutes (sacharine, nutrisweet, splenda etc). an alternative that works for me is to put a fruity herbal tea bag into a bottle of room temperature water- flavored after 10+++ mins.

I used to use them everyday until I researched the ingredients. I suggest you Google some of the ingredients and decide for yourself.....
I think they are fine! Probably best if its crystal light or another brand without much sugar

I use flavor packets all the time -- usually all day long. This really helps me get my water intake UP. I am addicted to Peach Tea -- any brand. I like our local grocery store the best and it's BEST YET!

I have tried them all. I did not like the Lipton or Crystal Light ones because of the Aspartame after taste. I really like the 4C brand. I usually drink plain water when I work out. I use the 4C mixes the rest of the day. My favorites are blueberry green tea and peach tea.
I use at least one packet every day, because I just cannot seem to get the water I need otherwise and I've been having problems with leg cramps. I recently tried the packets with 5 grams of fiber and 3 grams of protein, which are supposed to help offset hunger pangs. Has anyone else tried those?

I love the flavor packets! They definitely help me get in my 8 glasses of water per day!
Basically, your body can extract and use the water from anything that has water in it (including solid foods) to meet your water needs. So, the question is not really whether something other than plain water "counts" as water, but rather, whether the other stuff that comes with it makes it a good choice for your needs and goals.
Some beverages, such as those with high caffeine or alcohol content (both diuretics), may also increase the amount of water your body eliminates without using, so that needs to be taken into account. Some beverages provide "empty" calories (added sugar) that need to be counted, and some provided needed nutrients. Others such as Crystal Lite use artificial sweeteners to provide flavor without calories or with very little calories, which appears to be safe in moderation, but could potentially cause problems if used excessively.
Here's an article from our SP Dietitian, Becky, with more info:
In order to help me drink my 8 glasses of water, I add a packet or two during the day of Crystal Light "on-the-go" flavor packets. The box shows that one packet is meant for a 16.9 fl oz bottle of water; but my bottle is 34 oz. I add one packet to my 34 oz bottle of water just to add some flavor to it. Does this take away from the amt of water we actually intake and can count as our glasses of water?
