Follow doctor's orders. You just underwent major surgery. You can't rush things. Just watch your calories in and make sure you've adjusted your intake level for reduced activity if you had been consuming at the upper end to account for your exercise routine. Take care of yourself.

Stick with the walking.

I had a hysto a couple of years ago. I was able to get back to my fairly intense workout routine starting at six weeks, but things like sitting up and wearing pants hurt for many more months.

Just increase things steadily and don't give up.

:) I bet you can ask her what you can move up to when you are at that stage. Maybe you could even ask her now to give yourself a little hope while you wait.

Thank you both. I guess I am just walking then. She said in a couple of weeks I could build up to other things as long as they were easy, but she didn't say what they were.

I'd have to totally agree, that you need to listen to your doctor. I've known several people who had a hysterectomy and tried to do too much, too soon. And ended up really prolonging their recovery. They didn't do themselves any favors at all, over the long run.

Since you just had a medical procedure, you really need to listen to your doctor's orders. And since you are concerned about exercising more whne allowed, you may want to discuss this with him/her and get a referral to a physical therapist. Any suggestions provided here may cause serious injury. And I would hate to do that to someone.

I had a hysterectomy a little over a week ago. I can walk pretty good now (just not for long) so I am trying to walk around the house when I can. Next week I can start walking outside. It will be almost a month since I exercised by that time. How can I work out without hurting myself or impeding my recovery? The Dr. said for six weeks just walking but are there other things I can do or should I stick with the walking?
