Still havent done it yet. I think I should make the time for myself to take care of me.

I'm sorry that you got some bad news over weekend. Emotional stress and anxiety can cause a person to take a nose dive into the comfort foods. Don't beat yourself up because you turned to food for comfort. This is something that has happened to us all at some point. Have you read any of the great Spark articles on emotional eating ? If so, I'm going to start you with a couple. Read those articles. The better educated you become about coping with stress, the better you'll be able to decrease these eating bouts. I'm a firm believer that stress is a neglected aspect of weight gain. If a person could reduce their stress, they'd automatically reduce their waistline.

These articles have techniques that can help.

I know that is a common behavior for me. Sometimes It takes me a day or so to catch on that I am doing it again. And you are right it does bring on the guilt and sadness for eating when I know I shouldnt. I got my husband to hide all the junk I would normally go for. I know it will get better but right now is a hard time. I chew alot of gum at work I guess I should keep some at home.

Hi - I am sorry that you have had some bad news. You mention that you are 'eating for no reason again." - well I would venture to say that you know why you are eating - it is your way of trying to deal with the bad news. Unfortunately that will only set you up with a new set of negative emotions, from guilt and anger at your own actions. Below is a link which you may find helpful:

It is best to find an alternative to do with your hands and mouth - a hobby for the hands (like knitting) and some gum for the mouth if you can't kurb it any other way.

Of course, if you find that you still have problems trying to find an alternative, and this behavior is a common occurrence, then a Therapist can help you to unlock the right tool for you so that you CAN deal with this emotion appropriately.

By the way, it IS o.k. to allow others to see your sadness etc. It is healthy. I find that talking about whatever helps me considerably and keeps me on an even keel, whereas my hubby is inclined to bottle it up and almost get explosive.

Good luck,

I have been doing really well lately and on Saturday I got some really bad news. All of a sudden I am eating for no reason again. I know I am just holding back emotions because I am trying to be strong for my Husband and friends but I am really turn up. I just wish this feeling would go away. How do you stop emotional eating.
