I deal with this problem off and on. I try to find things to take my mind off food. Since you can't up and take a walk or leave the area, try playing a game on your phone or reading a book.

I think this is something that happens to everybody at one point in time. I have been known to get up and do some jumping jacks out of the blue or go brush my teeth.

Think of things that will keep your hands and mind busy.
Do you like reading? Crosswords? Knitting? (seriously, if Rosie Greer can so can you) Drawing? Weights? (can you work on increasing your reps?) Writing/journaling? Fly fish tying? Organize a photo album? Making gifts for friends and family? Whittling? Wood carving?
Think about your hobbies or hobbies that you would like to start.
Personally, I would try to stay busy and break the bored snacking habit.

I, too, keep raw vegetable on hand. Sometimes I just brush my teeth and use Listerine so I won't be tempted to eat.
I keep plenty of raw veggies & eat them when I get bored.

My husband is a truck driver also and complains about the same thing. He just brings healthy snacks with him. He also spends alot of time on his smart phone to pass the time.

Except for chewing gum, or apple slices, grapes, berries, that have some nutrition to them, pop them into your mouth, or grape tomatoes, changing what you munch on might help. But in reality, that popping food into the mouth becomes a habit, same as smoking, always having something in there............do you have a tablet, read the news on it, read Spark People stuff, read web sites that have articles about nutrition, etc. It's the same as wasting time, except you don't eat, lol. Your issue is what happens to 98 % of people trying to lose weight, it's hard to stop oneself from self medicating.

I have the same problem... I usually eat things like... popsicles (some have only around 20 calories! :O) or lollipops... anything that lasts longer and doesn't have that many calories, you know? also things like... coffee, sugar free gum... uhmm... also, what works for me is not having any big meal, I just eat lots of tiny meals throughout the day.

I keep busy with Sudko. It's a simple number puzzle that keeps your mind occupied while waiting to do whatever. It's easy to put down and pick back up when necessary and there are no calories involved.

Perhaps you could switch to very filling, but low calorie things to munch on. Examples would be things like celery sticks, cucumber sticks, and baby carrots. If you want to dip them in something, try using a very low-calorie dressing.
You could perhaps suck on no-sugar hard candies.
If you drink coffee, maybe cut back on it at other times, and drink it when you are on your "waiting around" time.
Find low-calorie chips and eat them with salsa; most salsas are low in calories.
Sip on large glasses of water during your waiting around time.

I have a question. Does anybody else have a problem controlling their eating if they get bored and does anyone have a solution? I am a 41 yr old truck driver and I have a lot of down time where I just sit in the truck waiting to load and unload. and that's when I have a problem. I cant go on a walk because I have to stay with the truck. I have lost over 40 lbs so far this year (most of it since june 11) and I feel much better but I have another 15 I want to lose but I seem to be stuck. when I sit around waiting I eat to much. any suggestions?
