Thank you everyone for your advice. I guess I should have made myself clearer in my original post. It's not that i'm forcing myself to drink when I don't want to I enjoy having a few drinks. My husband and I both have a lot of alcoholoics in our family and I just don't want my kids growing up with it how I did. That is the reason I don't allow myself to drink more often.

It's gonna be 2 days with the kids - which can sometimes be stressful enough.
Remember, 1 calorie is approximately 3,500 calories. If, for some reason, you put on 5 pounds in 2 days...you'd really have had to consume 17,500 calories in 2 days. When you return from the trip (I mean, really...it's 2 days, not 2 weeks) just resume your current plan and drink a lot of water.
Any gain you see will most likely be water weight gain from the sodium in the foods you will be eating.
Just have a good time for those 2 days. Drink as much water as possible during the days, walk as much as possible.....and have a blast!!!

Another thing to think about is whether or not drinking makes you (personally) make bad food decisions. Are you the kind to start ordering bar-food after two drinks, or to want to drive through Jack-in-the-Box on the way home? Sometimes it's not just the extra calories from the drinks, but the extra food that's a killer.

I don't drink very much either but will enjoy with friends from time to time. I usually do vodka with half water, half craberry juice. Or vodka and diet soda!

I usually have 1-2 drinks per week, usually beer or wine. I plan for those calories throughout the day. Maybe I'll go with a lower calorie protein during the day, or swap a fruit for veggie for a snack. I can't drink diet pop as the fake sugars give me a headache so when I want a hard liquor I go for it. I also love a glass of straight whiskey. As I always say, Everything is OK in moderation.
Have fun on your vacation. If you don't want to drink you don't have to. If you want to, just plan for it by making extra smart choices during the day. When I went on vacation a couple months ago, I didn't track at all. I ate good, calorie laden foods with alcohol all week. Came back and didn't gain a pound. Remember when on vacation you are usually more active than at home.
Alcohol is very high in calories, so you may want to skip it altogether, as others have noted. Otherwise, fruit juices and club soda mixed with vodka are probably your best bet and, IMO, very refreshing.

The darker the liquor, the more calories it tends to have so vodka will have less calories than dark rum. Eelpie is right though, the stuff that tends to blow mixed drinks out of the water is the stuff besides the alcohol: juice, cream, simple syrup, even tonic water. Other than the fact that I think practically every hard liquor other than my favorite scotch is disgusting, I like drinking beer and wine because you know exactly what calories you're getting in each serving. With mixed drinks, it can vary widely.

Hard liquors have about 80 cals in an ounce and a half. Wine is about 125 a glass.
As far as liquor - it's really what you mix them with that matters - although most drinks from a bar are about 3 ounces.
Club soda has zero calories. Cranberry juice has about 120 cals in 80z, but with 31 gram carbs and about 30 grams sugar. Grapefruit juice has less calories and carbs than cranberry.
I do vodka with unsweetened ice tea that I sweeten with stevia, or half unsweetened ice tea and cranberry. Some people use diet coke.
It's easiest to think of it this way: just stick to the basics. The fancier, or frozen, or cream laden (white russian, bailey's), the more calories.

If you are not a drinker, why not just have sparkling water with a big wedge of lime? It's refreshing, calorie free and the bubbles make it a little festive.
If you do want an alcoholic drink, citrus vodka with soda water is light and has very few calories. Or you can have half soda water and half cranberry juice. Campari and soda is one of my favorite drinks, but it is too bitter for a lit of people. Some people drink Jack and Diet Coke or rum and Diet Coke, but I try to avoid diet sodas.
If you are at a fancy resort, there are often specialty cocktails. Sometimes they are full of sugary juices, but often there are options that are lighter. If there is a good bartender, ask him/her to make you something. Unless the bar is jammed, bartenders often like to show off their skills and do something more interesting than the typical booze and mixer combinations that most people order.
If you're not a drinker why have anything even if on vacation? But if you want something try a Campari and soda; light drink and easy to sip for a while.

If you don't normally drink except on your birthday and at Christmas... why are you trying to figure out what to drink on vacation? I don't drink at all (ever). Doesn't matter what the occasion is, I drink water. Might mix a little fruit juice with some water, just for a change of pace. A few years back, I went to one of those "all-inclusive" resorts where the drinks are free. I still didn't drink. No one really cares what's in your glass anyway. If you don't want to drink.... don't drink.

I am not a casual drinker I only drink 2-3 times a year mainly my birthday and our Christmas party. in a couple Weeks we are going on vacation and i'm wondering what are "safe"drinks as far as calorie wise. it will only be one night and i'm spending 2 days at sea world with 2 kids so i should be getting plenty of exercise. also i don't drink beer or wine so i'm looking for mixed drink suggestions. i don't want to just take a break i will have only been doing this a month when we leave and i don't want to get off track. thanks in advance
