I agree with CEDARBARK1. it is an oil that I use, but not on a daily basis. I refuse to use "vegetable". corn, safflower, or canola oil. Most of those are made in a plant not by a plant. I use olive oil, walnut oil, and grapeseed oil as well.

I use coconut oil, but as a secondary or tertiary oil.
It is better than most of the vegetable oils on the market, but it is not something that will "improve brain function", but then again it has no detrimental effects on the thyroid.
My go-to oil remains extra virgin olive oil, or organic ghee. Coconut oil for me is an occasional thing, and it certainly beats out corn oil,"vegetable" oil, safflower oil, peanut oil, etc.
I am not sure of the training of your health professional---but based on current research, you should NOT be consuming coconut oil on a daily basis--by taking spoonfull amounts daily.
And do not trust the info you will get by doing a search---for there is a great deal of misinformation on coconut oil on the internet.
This oil has not been shown to benefit weight loss, brain function, or any of the other numerous health claims that are out there.
"IF" you like the flavor or texture it gives a few of your foods, then use it in moderation (small amounts only) as your condiment oil---but do not use it as a daily go-to oil and do not take spoonfuls daily.
The greatest confusion comes from using MCT oil studies and saying the same then goes for coconut oil. While MCT oil is "processed" from coconut oil the end result is vastly different. With only about 15% of the two oils having the same components.

Do you mean a registered dietitian? Nutritionists are not licensed and anyone can call themselves a nutritionist. Taking coconut oil twice daily does not sound like the kind of advice a registered dietitian would give IMO.

I'm not sure about ingesting it, but it really is great for the skin. I use it on my baby's bum (to prevent rash and not ruin my cloth diapers). It's a great moisturizer.
(Sorry, you will probably have to copy and paste that as I am not sure how to do the link stuff properly!)

Just Google it. You'll find thousands of sites that will tell you it's awesome stuff. I eat coconut oil, flakes, milk, flour, whatever I can get my hands on. I condition my hair with the oil, take my make off with it, use it as an an after shower body oil. Be sure to buy the best quality you can find. I buy it all from Amazon.com.

I was recently told by a licensed nutritionist that I need to take coconut oil twice a day. I was told at the health food store where I bought it that it wrecks havoc with the thyroid! Does anyone out there know of any website I could verify the authenticity of coconut oil? Is is good or bad for you
