No. I am terrified of big dogs. I was bit when I was 8 - on the behind. I now own my first dog, a little Chihuahua. Fortunately, she has a very gentle disposition.

I was chased a few weeks ago by a dog while i was riding my bike! Scared the daylights out of me. My husband was w/me and after he yelled a bit the dog took off. Going to at least take a water/spray bottle next time I go that way!

Not lately, but I've had a few incidents out walking on country roads.

-- The worst was getting cornered by 3 dogs acting badly, barking, teeth barred & all around ferocious (a gang of dogs!). I had nowhere to go. I was kind of freaked out. (They had come charging off their property, across the street, to get at me along the other side.)
-- Then I remembered watching an elderly neighbor act /react to an annoying dog chasing after him. He raised his arms, and menaced the dog--right back at him. I figured I had nothing to lose and everything to gain. So I screamed, hollered, raised my arms, charged at the dogs and pretended to be the "alpha dog". I didn't get bit, managed to back away from their "space," and went far enough to find a large stick to use on my return part of my loop.
(Later I brought my dh to speak w/ the owner. Woman said not her problem. Referred us to male who walked into his shop and shut the door.)

Never did walk that area without a weapon of some sort.

My apologies, Fiatvol... (original poster), since I wasn't sure how you intended the tone of your story, but that actually sounds incredibly adorable. :o)

Last month I was walking with my daughter. A dog ran up to me (young dog but teeth bared) and the owner said, "oh, she won't hurt you." Yeah, right. The stupid dog bit me. The owner was less than apologetic and got after me because I didn't tell the dog "no"
Wouldn't you think a responsible owner would call to the dog?

I have been biten by a couple of dogs, and chased a few other times. The worst was one of my neighbor's dogs. It always barked at me like it "meant business" but they always said "he is just a baby and won't hurt anybody." (Almost all pet owners say that in my experience).

That one tore my jeans badly but didn't seriously hurt me.

So naturally, I tense up whenever a dog barks at me "in that way." I have been told by numerous people it is "my own fault" they come after me because the dog knows I'm scared of it. If I don't act scared, supposedly it will leave me alone. Guess what? I can't turn off that scared feeing. Is this really my fault? I don't think so.

No, not lately, but that is only because I've moved away from the coast and no longer walk on the beach frequently.

Hate hate hate people who let their dogs run off leash. I really wish that fines for this would be enforced because it really is a dangerous situation.

No, but I'm not surprised it was a chihuahua. I've had dogs all my life and the only dog I was ever truly bitten by was a chihuahua.

It's been about 3-4 years, but I was chased by a dog while inline skating in a park. The park rules said all dogs had to be on a leash. The owner let the dog run wild. Well, the dog barreled right into me. I tried to avoid hitting the dog, but I ended up face first into the sidewalk. I was banged up pretty good. The owner came rushing in and asked if I was okay. I just had the wind knocked out of me. More than anything I wanted to smack the owner upside his head for letting his dog run around without a leash. The dog wasn't ferocious or anything like that. The dog just wanted some attention. Well, knocking me off my skates is one way !

Not recently, but a neighbor I see while walking, keeps her dog on a leash, but every time we pass, her dog barks relentlessly at me. I cringe when I see her up the street and know that we will be passing one another, and that I will have to endure the barking once again. I'm sure other neighbors wonder what's going on.

Not me. But hubby was chased by a pair of dogs, until he fell down. Then he was no fun and they left him alone in his misery.

No, not lately, but there are quite a few people in our small town who are irresponsible pet owners. I have had enough scares to be more than annoyed at the indifference several dog owners have concerning others who might be walking near their properties.

Not as a rule. When walking my dogs we do on occasion run into people with dogs who ignore the rules and fail to leash their dogs.

I have two dogs but they don't chase anyone but each other around the yard. As well they go to the dog park everyday to play with their furry friends.

I walk country roads where the people think it's ok to leave their dogs loose. I get harassed nearly everyday. The Pit Bulls are the scariest!

I survived a 21 mile cycle in the county only to be attacked by a chihuahua during my cooldown walk at home.
