I guess it can depending on what mood you are in at the time and whether the compliment seems genuine. I like them. Like RedShoes said about her son, I don't like it when someone disturbs my walking exercise because I am timing myself to see if I can do better than "X" per mile. That being said, I will say thank you, put my ear bud back in and keep going.

To me, compliments are more nourishing than food! The echo of a wolf whistle behind me is incredibly positive reinforcement to keep me working, working, working. I put on full make-up to go for the mail - am never, ever seen in uncoordinated clothes, and totally care how I look. All the time! That was why weight gain was SO debilitating to me; I hid carefully in well-constructed clothes so people couldn't really see me then. But I could see me - and I could not live with it.

The very best thing about compliments is that they are FREE - to give, and to receive! It seems like if you look, you can find something to compliment about anybody - it may not always relate to their looks, but it should always make them feel a little better than they did before they saw you that day.

Compliments are wonderful little caresses from angels. I LOVE compliments!

Sometimes they can put me off...but I try to keep focused on what I have left to do.

Take a minute, appreciate that someone notices your hard work, then stop and think: "I still have _______ to go."

Compliments put my son off when he is at the gym.. We have a personal trainer whom walks up to people if she sees them do amazing stuff and gives compliments.. I have asked her not to disturb my son while doing wide arm pull ups, if people praise him he gets all pissed off and huffs off to the changing rooms..

I asked her to remember when she is training for competitions they go into their own thoughs and find it annoying if people disrupt their routines- my son gets put off because of ADHD and totally losses his concentration..

ADHD kids can do great stuff- unfortunately there is no sign on his body..

He doesn't know how special and lucky he is or how to content of the street strangers compliments..

I wear a mp3 player to block out negative comments and horn blowing out on my cardio routes..

She gives a good point too. When people compliment you, it puts pressure on you because now you think "oh they're expecting me to lose all this weight" People see you're losing weight and they expect you to lose it all and I think it definitely makes you nervous.

I know how this feels! When I would try to lose weight (even before I got to be morbidly obese) people giving me compliments put me off. I think it was because of a fear of failure. I think that's why when I lost weight the last time, I didn't really tell anyone at first, and just tried to ignore compliments and focus on getting down to a healthy weight.

This is hilarious - I have thought the same thing so many times. I love the compliments but sometimes I let that give me a "free pass" to be a bone head again. I guess I just need to start tweeking the way I see the compliments - not a free pass - just more encouragement to do even better, hit that next goal. Easier said than done.

I have the same problem. Whenever I see my parents or friends and they're like "wow, you look good!" All of a sudden my progress stops. For me it always puts in my mind 'oh, I'm doing good, I think I'll reward myself...' Then my celebration reward turns into a celebration dinner, then celebration weekend...and see where this is going. LoL. Not sure if that's what's happening with you but that's my problem. Now I try to hear the compliments but just let it go in one ear and out the other. Keeping that in mind makes me want to go nuts and celebrate!
