OK, I'm seeing that this post originated a year ago.

Do questions normally get revived like this?

I used to do Zumba all the time. I joined a different gym recently, which means different instructors, and haven't taken a Zumba class at the new gym yet.

At the last gym, there were people of all ages in every Zumba class, no matter what time of day. I've been to a few Zumbathons and to class with others and there are always people over 50. There are less at the Zumbathons, which is an extra-extended class,

Definitely go. If you don't like it, see if your gym has more than one instructor. If so, try it with an different instructor. The different styles of teaching can sometimes make a big difference. I LOVE Zumba but there are certain instructors I avoided.

Hope you have a great time!

There are several teams here devoted to Zumba. If you click on Community on the navigation bar and then go to SparkTeams you can search for them.

I have a love-hate relationship with Zumba that is complicated for reasons of culture and politics more than anything having to do with exercise. I tend to get a little too serious about Latin dance because it is something that I know and care about a lot. Possibly I think too much. :)

When it is great it's a good workout and a lot of fun--certainly worth trying.

If you go to you can look for classes. There are Zumba Gold classes specifically for older adults, which might be a good place to start.

I find that Zumba classes vary enormously in quality and style. If you don't like the first one you try, don't give up!

There are certainly people in their 50s in most of the Zumba classes that I've participated in.

Love Zumba, so fun. There are people of all ages in the class, from high school gals with their mothers, to women in their 60s --and even men.

Zumba is awesome. I have done both classes and DVDs but I like the energy of the classes more. At the classes I have been to, there have always been a pretty even mixture of ages, sizes, gender, etc. I even saw a man and a woman (different classes) who looked to be 60-75 years old. I think it's all about being comfortable with yourself and having fun.

ZUMBA Yes! I love it! I get my zumba fix 2 times a week. The rest of the week I am ballroom dancing.

Class was GREAT!! Did not know the steps, but lasted 45min and will be back in class again on Tuesday evening. By the way, I hung out in the back of the class, and think I was the oldest one there. HOWEVER, this is NOT going to daunt me; Zumba here I come!!

- over 50
- class (really liked the Toning because it was a little less impact, but that's been cancelled until the teacher can get more interested individuals or a better time).
- ordered the DVDs to do in between classes and possibly learn the moves better

My input:
Take it easy on yourself.
Don't expect to learn everything at once.
If you can't catch onto something; at least keep moving - it all helps.
If you have the ability, try out different teachers/classes. Each one is different.
Have fun - that's the point - to forget that it's exercise, and enjoy the company and the atmosphere

Thanks for the input. Think I'm going to give it a try. By the way, based on your user name; are you by chance in Severn, MD? (Lived in DC during the 90's. Miss the area soooo much.) Thanks, Anna

I am going to visit my friend in Oregon soon, and she said she has the Zumba, so we are going to check it out. I know I will love it.

I love zumba and try to go as often as I can! At the class I go to there seems to be people of all age groups and everyone seems to really love it! One of my mum's friends does zumba every week and she's in her sixties! I'm generally quite self conscious but I find at zumba I'm usually too busy enjoying myself to worry about it!

I'd really recommend it, you won't know if you don't try emoticon

Yes, usually once or twice a week. I have 2 left feet, but zumba makes "dancing" fun and exciting. A great exercise for anyone!

Hi and I know I am not in the age group you are looking for but I saw the post and had to say I LOVE zumba class! Right now there is a 66 year old woman in the zumba class I take, I don't know where you live I live in Ashland KY, I would go to the searchteams bar and type in your area join the group for your area and then post your question on there I am certain if there are any zumba classes in your area they will know and someone will go! Good luck and my instructor says doesn't matter how old you are or how good you are, just move your body and your doing fine!

Not for me. I've tried it several times. Don't worry, though, there are lots of 50+ people in the room. I was one of them, and I wasn't the oldest in the class.

Hi, Does anyone out there Zumba? At home or a class? If in a class, is anyone in the class over the age of 50? I think I want to join a class, but do not want to be the old grandma in the class. Thanks, Anna
