I do Zumba 2 times a week , treadmill 2 times a week, line dancing once a week, just started with weights and stationary bicycle. Each day we should try and do at least 30 minutes. Our bodies need this, especially as we grow older and want to be able to care for ourselves.. I will be 69 next week. We also need to set the example for our families.

You can overtrain doing anything, if you are doing more than your body can handle.
How can you over train in Zumba? Ummmmmm. I don't get that. I'm a Zumba instructor, and I teach 3 times a week. There is no such thing as over training in Zumba. Now if you are donig it every day 5 hours a day.. well yeah. But that normally doesn't happen and your body will yell at you.
Keep track of what you are eating. I won't give up carbs either. In fact, we need them, just not the sugary kind. If you are eating less than 1200 calories a day, then you need to eat more.
Your muscles will retain water as they grow and repair, and a measurieng tape is a good thing to use instead of the scale.
I totally agree with the point about tracking progress with the tape rather than the scale.
It is a common response to beginning/increasing an exercise program for your muscles to retain water. This increase in your lean mass can lead to little change in the scale, even as you are burning fat.
However, as you point out, fat is considerably bulkier than muscle and water, and typically this will show up as inches lost, even if the scale is being unco-operative.

Hello everyone! Tarebear here, ok so I need to lose 80 pounds. I have some issues that I'm dealing with.
I used to be really really really really skinny, scary skinny, like 100 lbs and 5'4 because of ritilin and ADD meds. And I'm terrified of getting there again OR of losing weight TOO fast. How do I not lose weight too fast?
I am limiting my calories by 500 or 600 depending on how many calories I burn during the day, cut out sodas and sodium stuff, only drinking water. I do eat carbs and WILL NOT cut those out, last time I did that I got really lethargic and slow. But I am keeping them to a minimum.
Ok so Zumba, I was told that I was ripe to Over Train, what does that mean? I mean with me dancing is just a blast, I adore it and could do it for days and days- I am thinking of doing 20 min in the morning and 20 in the evening, or just do 40 in the morning. But that gives me an over all of 280 min of exercise a week since I am at home and there is nothing to do anyway... LOL Might as well get the most of it right?
I am getting Zumba tomorrow *SQUEE* and I am going to do the steps, and then do activate and WATCH all of them and kinda flail around with it to get the feel of the intensity and stuff.
I want to make sure that I am actually losing weight....This sounds so stupid so i'm sorry if it is ignorant of me.
I need to lose 80 pounds, but I am staying OFF the scale and using a measuring tape because I was told that I might lose inches before I lose pounds since Zumba is like a mega workout. And a pound of muscle is the same but leaner than a pound of fat...
I hate the scale....like seriously....I hate it so much, I can deal with it but I get so frustrated with THE NUMBER that I just get really down on myself. It's silly I know, and I know I need to work out it but my husband threw out my scale LOL and got me a tape measure, and said he wants me to focus on HOW I look not what the scale says I look like.
Anyone ever deal with that too? I also have the issue of guessing calories at a restaurant...I go to this places called Taj and it doesn't label what's in the food. Any suggestions it's Indian food, like curries and such. I haven't GAINED anything, but I am most certainly not losing anything in a fast manner. I want to lose 20 lbs by december for a wedding.
