Hello! I want to start yoga...unfortunately I had surgery in July and am still in a walking boot and on crutches. I'm getting closer and closer to getting rid of my crutches. Will I still get the same benefits if I do modified yoga positions? I have several yoga dvds, don't want to go to a yoga class yet because I'm not allowed to drive yet! I think I'll still benefit from it. Its so hard to get excersize in right now!

Yoga is a great way to really be aware of your body, and it is a strength work out. I started back last week and I felt so great afterwards. Can't wait to go back tomorrow!

Hi everyone!
Just wanted to comment that yes, it's obviously important to watch what one eats, but one can certainly lose weight with yoga!! There are so many styles, some more geared towards spirituality and others really full on workouts. One of my favorites, that is REALLY efficient is yoga based, but has other elements in it as well. Basic Yoga Positions on youtube is the place to check it out. It's straight forward and not particularly spiritual, but there are many ways of doing Mindfulness, so I don't see that as a major problem. It depends on what one is after, I suppose! Best of luck to everyone!

Yoga and walking is what really got me started with my exercise plan. Good for you!

Unfortunately yoga or any form of exercise is not the key to fat loss, nutrition (diet) is the prime mover in that area. Yoga will improve balance and flexibility and some minimal degree of improvement in strength but it will not be a major contributor to fat loss.

I've just started doing yoga, too. I'm always amazed at how tired I am after a yoga session. Love it.

Love it... I love how sore my "other" muscles are after a good yoga workout.. It's like oh yeah, I do remember you lol.. I can't wait to start family yoga in the fall with my kids.

I've been working out for awhile now and mostly do weight lifting and HIIT but I kept hearing great things about yoga and it's been on my fitness bucket list for some time. It's suppose to be good for healing and stretching (from well, any form of fitness) on recovery days from weight lifting. So I just started a 60 minute routine 1x a week last week. It's so nice to have a day off from my high intensity workouts but I always feel like I have left over energy pent up. Yoga is a nice low intensity/low impact way to still get some fitness in for the day without causing overtraining. I feel so tight and stiff when I don't exercise so yoga is the perfect fit.

Love it! I think it compliments every fitness program. Glad you enjoy it too.

At last I got started again doing yoga for 30 whole minutes. Like my Yoga for weight loss vid with S. Deason!
