My Spark Page is private because I have had some very negative and hurtful things said to me....I have Spark friends who I trust and belong to teams that I love....but my page is private because of the very reasons i stated in my riginal post.

As you get closer to goal you have to change things up. Like changing your exercise routine every 4 weeks. You might want to incorporate some HIIT for your cardio. You might need to drop your calorie range to 1200-1500. Are you drinking 10+ glasses of water per day and adding lemon really helps. Are you eating really lean and clean?

I think there are so many things you can try that maybe you haven't, but it does take much much discipline. I know I am so close to goal and I probably need to eat around 1200 calories a day to keep loosing. I also have to change my fitness routine every 4 weeks to challenge my body. You might try working out twice a day too!

How bad do you want it and what are you willing to give up? Think much bigger and broader for what you can do!

I think that although you are only down five pounds, without SP might you have gained 20 or 30 instead? Even if you follow another program, SP gives us a place to share with others 24/7. I too struggle and we all know there isn't a magic pill or program.

I personally know that as we age, we get to eat less as our metabolims slows down so possibly you should be taking in fewer calories. Also, I think that 35 minutes on a treadmill is very humdrum after a while. I admire that you are doing it but perhaps you need to jolt your system. Try doing 60 minutes at a faster pace 2 x a week. Change is good. Take up another activity 1 or 2 days. Lift some weights. Try Zumba or another dance. Our bodies adapt and we have to stay ahead by trying new things.

I would simply cut back 100 calories a day - if you are eating 1600 drop to 1500; also up your fiber like having whole fruit instead of juice or fresh instead of canned. And take out anything that isn't clean. No alcohol, one less processed dessert or treat a day and see if that matters after 30 days. You might be surprised at what a difference that will make.

I, too, have been on and off Spark for several years. I have gained weight since signing up, but that is due to my behaviour.

I think it's important to remember that SparkPeople provides tools to help people lose weight and get healthy. All of those people who have lost 100 pounds lost it by putting the effort in to change their lifestyle. They took advantage of the tools and support SparkPeople provides, but they earned their success themselves.

I hope you don't take this as judgemental or critical because that's not my intention. I am in the same boat (but have further to go) and I have come to realize it myself. It's the same with Weight Watchers or any other program you might follow. You have to make the change for yourself. You can do it (I have no doubt), but you have to be responsible for your success.

Use SparkPeople in the way that is most useful for you and fits into your life. It could be only using the trackers. It could be offering advice to others on the message boards. It could be joining a team that fits for you (I try to look at the message boards to see how active the team is first). There are tons of resources on here, maybe you just haven't found the ones that work for you yet. Good luck!

For me,I just came back to sp because after some life crisis' that were out of my control, I neglected my health, and suddenly after going through menopause, I had not only gained back the weight I had lost when I was on sp, but I gained a bunch more! I felt defeated and hopeless, and wondered if I should just give up. I have more than 100 lbs to lose, so its a long road ahead. I realized though, that I could either get back on the horse so to speak, or I will never be free to enjoy my life. I have to take it one day at a time, and not look too far ahead, and I do count on the support here when I need help. Its a journey I guess, and I will be here until I get where I want to be!

Sometimes spark isn't about just logging in, tracking and doing it, at least for me. It's not the only reason I am successful. Yes, I do those things. My largest was a size 18... And there have been months when I tried maintenance just to see if I could make the loss stay. But the real things that make it work for me are blogging and friendship. I used to blog more, and now i message more. Can I suggest you find people you connect with privately on Spark to keep you motivated? If there is a reason for you to log in, to ask questions, to give each other tips, it's a reason to try, to do something different, to find a new perspective. I have spark bffs that help me. We are all at different stages, we all have our own fights, but we are all here to support each other, exchanging ideas. I love seeing that I have spark mail, and I tend to check it around meal time... Makes it take longer to eat so I don't scarf down lunch at work ;)

We all make mistakes, go over, etc. we all fall down. It's about how we choose to get back up that makes the difference. If you choose to stay, or you need to share anything, feel free to message me if you like anytime. I'd be happy to be a spark buddy to you if you want to give it a try.

It will always be your choice as to whether to continue or not. I can't find a more positive place online than this one. It's FREE! I adore Sparkguy and all the motivation from so many members. Logging on here makes me understand that everyone has struggles, ups, downs, but we're all supportive of one another. Best wishes in all that you decide and all that you do.

This is what you NEED to do:

1. Make the Nutrition Tracker your BFF. DO NOT exceed the bottom line ranges for daily calories, carbs, fat, and protein. I repeat: do not exceed those numbers.

2. Join one of the month long bootcamp challenges (Official 28-Day Bootcamp Challenge or Spring into Shape Bootcamp Challenge or January Jumpstart Bootcamp Challenge, etc.). COMMIT to the challenge. Follow all the directions every week. After the month is over, do another month long bootcamp. Do this until you reach goal. The reason I recommend these challenges is because they provide a disciplined, step-by-step, easy-to-follow approach, and they GET RESULTS!

I agree with what a number of folks have said--you are close to target, so weight comes off more slowly. Your food choices, though within good limits, mostly, are a bit unbalanced. When you are close to target, sometimes that matters more than when a person has a lot to lose.

Your workout seems to have stayed the same; probably your body has become accustomed to it.

My suggestions: change your cardio around AND add some strength training...

...and join a team or two of people with shared interests (you asked what might make a difference, and sharing goals, sorrows, joys with others on a team, rather than the open boards, can help a lot).

Thanks Kris. My BMI is 23.6 which is just under the target rate. From information that they have sent us at work, the ideal weight range for my height is 130-144 for a medium frame and that is my target. My life is a little crazy with 4 teenagers and a 5 year old plus a husband who is on the road for months at a time. Blood pressure is normal, no meds for anything.

1GROVES2 - I have been a SparkMember for quite a few years, and have to say that I haven't noticed what you are mentioning re criticism. There are very occasionally those who may be negative, but on the whole the members are very supportive of each other. When we suggest things they may or may not work for you or for that person, BUT there is a good chance that they just may work. We don't know until we try. I guess what it boils down to is that not everyone likes the same things, and sometimes things affect our bodies in different ways. The suggestions are there for the member to read, take on board and if nothing else it may give them an idea on how to get around their issue. The fact that many of us have lost a considerable amount of weight and gained a lot of good friendships in the process shows that it obviously DOES work for a huge number of people.

I hope that you find what sparks you - we all deserve it!

Ii went to have a peek at your SparkPage but it is set to Private. You may find that if you open it up for the members you will get tons more support which will help you on your journey!

JAM2DREW - I am 5' 6" and will be 59 in a couple months. Check out my weight ticker! This is the goal my Dietitian set, and it is BELOW the goal of my Dr who wanted me to stop about 5lb ago. At the weight you are now you are already in that healthy BMI range, and altho' I acknowledge the BMI isn't the be-all-and-end-all re weight, it is a pretty good guide.

I wonder if there is something else going on with you which is manifesting in your mind as a weight issue. Sometimes depression or anxiety issues can do this, but is unrecognized. Have you spoken with your Dr about what you are wanting to achieve? If not, it would be helpful if you did so, and also get your bloods checked to see if there is something else going on.

i am about your height and 44 years old. my goal weight and start weight is about the same as yours.

i probably average about 1550 calories a day to maintain 132. i also jog aobut 3 miles 3 times a week (just under a 12 minute mile).

there are a lot of resourses on sparkspeople and i hope you find something that works for you.

Thank you all for the advice. I really appreciate it and your tips.

I am approximately 5'6 - 5'7. Prior to the youngest child, I had weighed just under 130. Right now I'm about 148 - 149 and would like to get back into the mid to lower 130s (132 ideally). I have probably an average build.

My treadmill has an incline but I'm not sure if it is broken or stuck or what it is on right now. I've never been much of a runner but would be willing to try jogging for short periods of time on it. I have no idea what my heart rate is and don't have anything to track it. Walking is just what is easiest for me and I can usually multi-task by reading, surfing the net, or watching tv at the same time. (With 5 kids, a hubby who is on the road, a full time job, and a board position that I volunteer for, I HAVE to multi-task).

Hope I answered all the questions and yes I know I need to get more fruit for sure. There are only certain fruits that I like (mostly apples, oranges, watermelon) so my pickiness limits me there. I try to have salads most days and always dip my folk into the salad dressing instead of dumping it on the salad.

I am in my mid 40s and I'm sure part of the issue has to do with age and menopause that seems to be lurking.

I get frustrated with SP much as people appear to be trying to help, for the most part they are critical....or so full of advice that is just not what I `m looking for.
I also have found I spend more time at my computer on SP than I do getting out and doing something healthy....
It seems as if there are so many people on here that are way younger than me, I didn`t really have a weight problem until I had a hysterectomy at 49.
This is just not the same place I first joined in 2009....or maybe I`m bored with it,....
are any of these things sounding like you?
Cause that is reallly the way I feel.

Does anyone know how accurate treadmill calculations are? Could the 260 calories a day be inaccuarate?

How tall are you ? Depending on how tall you are, as others have noted, you may already be at a healthy weight for your height. The closer a person is to a healthy weight, the harder and longer it takes to lose any perceived excess. Someone who is morbidly obese could lose 1-2 pounds per week. However, once we get close to a healthy weight, that loss slows down significantly. There are many member who will tell you that lose those last few pounds was slow going.

So, don't assume something is wrong because the weight isn't coming off as fast as you'd like. Because here's the other issue, if you have been a yo yo dieter, that too makes it harder to lose. Why ? each time we gain, lose and regain the weight, we teach our bodies to CONSERVE fat. You may have noticed that each time you regained the weight, it got harder to lose it.

What to do ? First, you can't beat yourself up because you've regained the weight. that is something that has happened to each and every member at one time or another. You will have to be more patient with your body. Because you don't have a lot to lose, it will take longer to lose that weight. you will need to be more mindful of what you've been eating. try to eat more servings of fresh fruit and veggies.

If I were to go back in time and give myself one piece of advice that would help me lose weight, it would be to increase the amount of veggies I ate until I was eating 6-9 servings each and every day. Eating that many will not only impact your health, but your waistline too.

And you have to understand that this isn't a diet, in order to take the weight off and keep it off, this must be a life style change. That's why Spark People encourages its members to start with some simple changes first. We're adopting all these healthy habits to take the weight off, we're going to need them to keep it off. There is a notion that once a person loses weight, they can eat whatever they want. That's a misconception. If we want to keep the weight off, we still need to watch what we eat and get some regular exercise.

So, why not start with a few simple changes first.

Be patient with yourself and your body.

Getting the delicate balance between what we want to eat and what we should eat can be frustrating.

Not knowing what you've been eating during your time here at Spark all I can do is give some recommendations on what I see in your tracker over the last few days. If this is what you normally eat on a regular basis it's no surprise you're stuck.
You may be in your range but I think the quality of what you eat is hindering any progress.
Overindulging in sugar and sodium (which prepackaged food has plenty) is a big factor.

1) Limit beer to 8 oz (reduce from the 24 oz)
2) Nix the bars and substitute with fruit
3) Limit the processed food where you can.
4) Limit the amount of bread you have in any given day. Try to have it only one meal for the day.

The goal here is to enjoy what you eat but realize some changes have to be made for the long haul. Go over what you eat and ask yourself - "Is this going to help me meet my goals?" "Can I make a better choice?" "Is it really a hardship if I cut back on having this everyday?"

You're probably not going to read here anything you haven't read a million times before, but something has to click with you for this to work.

SparkPeople is all about Nutrition/Fitness/Motivation. More importantly it's about Knowledge. Because in giving you knowledge you won't have to rely on what anyone else has done to make things work for them. You'll discover what works and doesn't work for you.

Having checked your tracker, I notice a few things. First off though, how tall are you? You don't appear to have very much to lose, which can often be the source of the difficulty.

Thing #2: You may have to do more than walk. Are you using an incline? Can you run? Can you do a jog-walk cycle of 1 minute running and 2 mins walking? Do you happen to know what your heart rate gets to in these sessions? You might have to up the intensity.

Thing #3: Jump-starting your food. Your calories seem to be in order but there are lots of days where I wonder where your fruits and vegetables are. It's possible that you're not actually getting the quality of nutrition that you need, even though your calories are low enough, to lose weight this way. Also the beer. I am a beer lover myself. But if I want to lose weight I simply HAVE to make it water most days and then have a beer or two once or twice a week.

But you have a great family! Hope they keep you motivated!

Thanks Heather and Kris. My board are open for viewing. I have been walking on the treadmill for about 35 minutes a night averaging 260 or so calories burned each time. Based on that Sparks upped my food range to what it is now. It hadn't been higher than 1550 and so I thought perhaps I wasn't eating enough when the range went up. Maybe the settings are all screwed up.

I hope that you don't mind, but I had a wee peek at your nutrition tracker. I can see that there are many times that things like beer or cookies were included, and sometimes the calorie intake is quite top-heavy. Given this, I wonder if you would find it helpful to go through your various days and see where you may be able to cut back on the treats.

I am not saying give them up, tho', because we still need to live/enjoy, but perhaps limiting them you may find that you will be able to move down like you would like.

Out of interest, what is the calorie range that has been given? I averaged them out from the 1st Jan and the average is 1629 calories per day. If I were to eat that average I would be gaining. It may be that you need to lower them a little. I know everyone is different, but when I was in the weight-loss mode I had to eat 1400 cal's (my Dietitian said no range) and with that the weight slowly came off - just over 50lb in 16 months, then I happily sat there for a year before deciding to move on down again. Since I have been at goal (long time now), I have been able to average 1600 cal's per day - any more and I gain.

I hope that you find what works for you!

What I would suggest would be to share your fitness and nutrition trackers publicly, and post on the diet and nutrition boards for help. The community here is amazing, and the experts will help troubleshoot your program! I'm betting the community can provide you with tips to help tweak your program and get you moving!

Hi Shelly.

We would hate to see you go, but remember it's not how many times we fall that keep us from reaching our goals, but how many times we fall never having the courage to get back up.

It took me 30 plus years of trying before I finally broke free of dieting. When I gave up diets and committed to the habits of healthy living, amazing things began to happen. I no longer have to think, I just do--that is what we call habits. But it takes time, patience and lots of practice to reach this point. It took me 3 1/2 years to lose 80 pounds and while I am proud of that accomplishment, I am more proud of keeping it off for 4 1/2 years and counting. The reason, this has become my way of living.

While I wish I had words of wisdom to get you to stay, I hope you will consider trying again and allow time for the change to happen.

Maybe if you try Spark Coach? I was a Sparkpeople member before, but I just started Sparkcoach last week. It simplifies things for me, and I ended up losing 2 pounds the first week. You can try if for free for a week, I believe.

I've been a member of Sparks since 2008. I have lost weight but I've also gained weight. Since that time to now, I am down less than 5 lbs.than when I started. I have tried to eat better and exercise but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'm not sure what to do anymore. I read posts of people who have lost hundreds of pounds and I'm only trying to lose about 20 and can't seem to get anywhere.

I don't know what to do anymore. I've tried different Spark teams to find new challenges hoping that would jump start me but nothing seems to stick. I'm very frustrated and wondering if this just isn't the place for me anymore.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
