I think it's the sweet & salty taste that satisfies as well as the fat/protein that fill. It's an all-purpose food!

when i was thin and healthier I had it for breakfast on a slice of full grain bread or toast and a fruit a couple hours later. hmmm, thats a good thing to start doing again! I enjoyed it so much and it worked to keep me from binging. emoticon

I only eat peanut butter about twice a year. I really don't like it that much, but every once in a while I want a peanut butter sandwich.

I eat peanut butter because it is phsyically satisfying. When I'm really hungry and don't have very many calories left, I take a slice of fat free cheese and spread 2 teaspoons of peanut butter on it, fold it up and eat it. It is 90 calories and the protein and fat are enough to help the hunger.

Well peanut butter is salty and a bit sweet and it's great on just about everything or even on its own.

Peanut butter is just yummy!

Basically like everyone else said.. it has the protein, fat, and a great smell!!! I usually have it a couple of times a week for breakfast or lunch. It's satisfying.

I love PB soooooo much that I cannot even buy it. I will eat the whole jar at one time. I don't do this with any other food but PB. So I don't buy it.

I totally agree - it is a comfort food. Check your protein intake and see if there is a logical reason for the cravings. If not - just go with it. PB is not that bad for you in moderation. Just do not eat the whole jar like my hubby does!!!

It's one of my problem foods also; I have always thought that it was because you get the combo of sweet and salty at once.

It's one of those comfort foods that are so good! I can't keep it in the house because I just don't have any willpower when it comes to certain foods. Peanut butter is one of them.

It could be the fat too; it's healthy fat, but it has a nice rich feeling that is hard to get from many lower calorie foods.

There are times I crave pb too. My go-to lunch when I'm stumped is a pb sandwich.

You and me both!
I don't know what the secret ingredient is, but theres something about peanut butter that doesn't seem to come in any other foods.
I have heard it is just the high fat content that we crave, but I tell you my diet is not lacking in fat!
According to Wikipedia, peanut butter is high in protein, vitamins B3 and E, magnesium, folate, fiber, arganine and p-coumaric acid (an antioxidant).
Maybe I should start tracking some of those and see if there is a coorelation...?
If you figure something out before I do please let me know!

You're just craving this because you think you can't have it. Put a tablespoon of peanut butter on an apple and eat it, just make sure you don't go over your calories.

It could be the salt or the protien..
