You do these every other day to confuse the mind set.

I, too, build variety into my workout. When I run outside, I take different routes and go different distances. I attend classes and although, they may occur at the same time and be led by the same person, the instructor does something different every time.

Remember, change can also mean intensity and duration. I have been doing the same cardio for over a year (boxing and running), but I will change the distance run, or the intensity of my boxing frequently. I am still getting results with this. I change my ST exercises every 4-6 weeks

I work out at home using DVDs, free weights and also go running outside.

While I don't do the same workout two days in a row, I do have a few DVDs that I favour over others, so they are always in my rotation.

However, taken as a whole, I do tend to change things up every few weeks. I like to vary my runs, taking different routes and also incorporating speed and interval work, as well as longer more steady runs.

Every now and then I'll dig out a DVD that I perhaps haven't done in a few months, just to keep things interesting and give my body a wake-up call.

I also vary my strength routine - some days I lift heavy with low reps, other times I might be more in the mood for lower weights but higher reps.

Variety is the spice of life!

After about 4-6 weeks of doing the same thing all the time, your body gets used to it. You can change things up more frequently if you'd like, but you want to change the routine at least that often.

Hope that helps,

Coach Jen
