I was already exercising before I joined but I wasn't very consistent. I've been trying to be consistent but unfortunately, my muscles are still aching today.....after 6 days of rest. I will ask my doctor for advice before continuing again...........

I started exercising immediately after joining SP, but, I lost about 85lbs prior to joining. I lost the initial weight without much exercise at all, just dieting and tracking my calories. I don't recommend this, the weight came off very-very slowly, but it was better than just doing nothing. 85lbs ago, exercise was more discouraging than anything, I was painfully out of shape. I've added in exercise to take off the last 40lbs.

I focused on food only for about a month and then added in exercise.

I actually inherited the aerobics class at my church. 45 minutes/twice a week.....I joined Spark to hold my eating accountable. When I hit over 280, I was down but didn't cry. The regulars at my aerobics class keep me going for this class. They are amazing...some are faster than me...some are slower. Our motto is...."As long as we're moving, we are doing good ". Not one of us judge any of the others about weight or not keeping 's about encouraging each other not to be couch potatoes and keep on moving.

I started exercising immediately. I find that giving myself a miles per week goal really motivates me since my preferred cardio is walking and jogging.

Now tracking food on the other hand is something I didn't do on a regular basis at all, I'm a bit better about it now.

I'm amazed how so many of you used the term "accountability" in describing your feelings about being here. That's a great motivator. Just what I needed to hear. I haven't really started exercising, wearing my pedometer with my goal to be 6500 per day (I'm just recovering from lung surgery) and as soon as I get cleared by my surgeon...over to the park across the street I go, everyday...everyday.

Used a treadmill before joining; now committing to using it regularly and adding strength training. Baby steps.

I was already exercising here and there, but didn't really think of it as exercise so much as fun, or a way to get some alone time. Riding my bike, walking about, etc. I started tracking exercise a few days after I joined, I guess. I also sort of plotted out a more formalised routine of exercise at that time.

I joined two months before I started utilizing the website. I was completely overwhelmed and didn't even know where to begin. Thankfully, I decided to look at it again and it seemed more user friendly. Immediately I got spark friends and began exercising the next day.

I joined about four weeks ago and did not start consistently exercising until early last week. I had not been exercising in awhile so I felt I needed to work up to it.

I've been a member for two years but didn't start tracking until a few days ago. I started exercising my first day back on program. emoticon

I was already exercising -- and that's what I started tracking when I first joine SP. I was a member for over a year before I started to track my food.

I really liked your message and especially the "9 days since soda and junk food". Day after day I have to remind myself of why I am doing this and to stay motivated. Your daily count is an inspiration. Thanks emoticon

I was already walking a lot before I joined SP. I lost 25 lbs by walking, seeing a dietician and chaining my eating habits. I joined SP to be accountable about my food.

i have tried various incarnations of healthy diets, which often included gym memberships, or personal training. I re-joined the gym this fall, and tried to do it on my own, again. Spark people helps me with tracking and accountability.

Hi All! I am active so I have been exercising all along! I do more physical movement though now.

I was already exercising. One of the women in a wgt loss program at the fitness center recommenced Sparkpeople to me several times. I finally joined. I did not start tracking food for a while. I am down 100 lbs and have 100 to go. You can also do it.

Joined 7/3/12 but had been exercising regularly. I had an injury last fall to my knee and had 12 weeks of physical therapy this winter. I went to the gym on other days to continue the stretches and exercises she gave. For a few weeks after pt ended in March I continued but noted that I was in the gym and only doing waist down stuff. A little afraid to hurt myself I hired a personal trainer and have continued her help weekly since - doing weights, leg strength/balance, and other. My doctor is pleased and encouraged me to keep with it. (cheaper than the pt co-pays!) I'm at the gym an hour to two a day right now. Hope to be in great shape for surgery in October.

I was already exercising (walking mostly) but I started tracking right away. You can too. Just start small, like the other poster said. Make small, reasonable goals. Start tracking it and you'll feel good about what you've accomplished.

I actually joined the site in 2010 just to see what it offered and tried for 2 days and that was it.
I made up my mind to give weight loss another try and came back with a dedicated mind last week. I have started the workouts and I am also researching nutrition articles, and its helping me. However, there are people on here that have been dedicated from day 1. I made an action plan to help in my motivation.

I just joined "spark" this week, and haven't begun the exercise portion either. I am having a full day, just planning my meals a different way and keeping on track with food. I am sure exercise is going to be incorporated, just not until I am ready. I will take off some pounds first and go from there. No rush... I want to feel good about what I am doing, not pushed!

When I started I "hated" to exercise. After I lost about 15 pounds I was feeling flush with success so I got a pedometer and started tracking my steps.

That was very helpful for me because I could gradually build up. I went from walking a little bit to walking a lot to dancing a little while I walked to running. Now I LOVE to exercise and you will too!

Although I currently exercise, I don't do it regulary or the kinds I should. Like Oprah, I hate sweating! That being said, tracking my fitness minutes is helping me to be accountable to myself.

I started exercising about 2 - 3 weeks in. I would do a little here and there to change up the day, like the stairs and not the elevator, getting up every 50 minutes and moving around for 10 (desk job). I would take about 5 minutes per day 2 days a week, then to 3 days. Then I would do 10 minutes a day, etc.... It seemed to have helped with staying motivated and from keeping giving myself a shock. I keep it small until it becomes habit, so by the time I realize what I'm doing, I am ready to go to the next "phase". emoticon

I was already exercising when I joined. I wanted to understand the best way to change what I was eating so I could lose weight, and that's why I joined.

I can't lose weight without exercising and I can't lose weight if my diet is all over the board. If you have a lot of weight to lose that may not be true for you, but eventually you will have to incorporate both fitness and diet.

That being said-exercise feels amazing! Maybe not at first when your poor body has to actually wake up and move, but once you begin to gain a bit of strength and stamina you'll be pleasantly surprised what follows! Don't wait, start small, but start something today!

Honestly it took me a few years after registering before I started doing anything. Then one day I realized that if there is a chance that my weight is holding me back, I need to find out what is possible if I lost it. I kept on getting weekly emails from sparkpeople and decided to become an active member. I began to exercise everyday and track my food. I've stopped tracking, mainly because I haven't made much progress with it, but I still exercise.

I only got serious about weight loss (again) about 3 weeks ago. Last week I sprained my foot, so I haven't been exercising, but i've lost 11 pounds. I'd really like to get into some sort of exercise. Not sure what to do yet.

I have over 100 pounds to lose. I would love to hear from others in the same boat (or anyone) when they started to exercise after joining and tracking food.
