Being vegan raw I don't pay close attention to calories since I don't do dairy or pastas. But yes, some of the treats I make are high in calories. my smoothies I thought were a lot higher, so its nice that it works both ways.

I've been at it awhile so I'm not surprised anymore, but I too am also surprised by some of the splurges. In September I was travelling and I got these cinnamon melt things at the McDonald's at the airport, thinking they'd be around 250 calories. After I ate them I checked on my phone and they were close to 500 calories :(
These days I've been surprised at how little certain recipes I make are actually, calorie-wise. Tonight I'm making a chicken marsala pasta that involves butter and cream as a treat for my BF, and after building it in the recipe builder it's still under 600 calories for a pretty healthy sized portion (fat is on the high side at 21 grams but I don't worry much about that). I had been avoiding certain recipes because I just thought they'd be calorie-bombs (like my meal tonight) but some are actually not bad at all.

Although I've learned how many calories some of my favorites have, I am still surprised when I learn how many calories some of my splurges have; This is just one reason why it's so critical to track, to make us more aware, and ideally successful in our weight loss/maintenance goals.

I have noticed that when I track my food, I am always surprised with the number of calories that I eat. What about you?
