Thanks for all those that responded. I chose the weight of 120 since that is what I was 14 years ago before my last 3 kids and before age 50. I am not so sure that 6 pounds would really make that much of a difference, but I still feel fat and to me when I look in the mirror I see fat.

All my life I was typically 105-110 pounds. I am 5'3" and small frame. I never really had weight issues until mid 40's

I don't even know if it's possible to get to 120 today. The closest I came was a year ago to 122 and then life got in the way and I put on 4 pounds. In my mind, I think I want to be 120 but can't really seem to get there.

I am sure some may not be able to relate to what I am saying and others maybe can. In my mind, when I was 105-115 I felt skinny, now at 126 I feel fat. Yes I have developed muscles and am grateful for that. My hubby thinks I look buff, ha ha!

I am sure much of this is body image stuff. I know I feel stuck on what I used to look like. In my mind when I was younger I was happy with how I looked, now it's a struggle accepting what I look like today, if that makes sense. This could also be an aging thing. In my mind, I still want to look like I did in my 20's or at least have that weight number.

Thanks for listening to someone that is close to goal, but yet so far. I may not have many pounds to lose anymore, but I still struggle in many ways. We should think this wouldn't be so hard.

I am going to try to carve out a new mental image for myself and at the same time still work towards my goal and see what develops in 2013. I think this is along the lines of celebrating the success I have had and not what I haven't accomplished. Tough task for me!

I know that many probably would be satisfied and feel awesome at what they achieved, but for some reason I can't seem to get there. I know 6 pounds doesn't sound like much, but mentally it's daunting for me.

FITGLAMGIRL you nailed what I've been thinking for the last few months and I know exactly what you're saying. I wanted to get back to my old playing weight and after 55 lbs lost I will have been there for two years this February. I'm at 17% body fat, a long way from the 10% of the old days and I never expect to be back in that conditioning. I'd have to lose another 20 and put it back on as muscle. At 191 I would, nevertheless, like to lose that last ten. I take off a couple but just can't hold it. It's the ultimate plateau and it's really, really frustrating. I eat right, do a lot of cardio that I mix up routines on, do some strength training and swim distance when the water is warm enough. I just can't figure it out.

What made you choose that specific number as your goal?

Remember that weight is not static; 6 lbs is well within the range of normal fluid shifts day to-day... your goal weight should be more of a range than a specific number.

Will 6 lbs really make *that* big of a difference in your physique?

It's possible that your body may actually be *happier* 6 lbs heavier than you think it will! I would love to be 145 again, the weight I was when I was 18. However, I hadn't had 2 kids, I wasn't over 30, and I didn't have the burden of having gained weight in the first place.

I will likely never be 145 again. I'm not 18, and I wouldn't want to be. ;) So, I set my goal weight for a still healthy but far more achievable 155-160. 157 will make me just as happy as 155. If I stick at 160, I'll still be happy.

You have tried for 2 years. TWO YEARS. That's telling you something. YOu need to evaulate your goals.

Why not divorce the scale, and aim instead for body composition, body fat percentage? Instead of fretting over the scale, aim for strength and lower body fat. Have you been lifting weights? If not, it's time to start!

Congratulations for a two-year maintenance.
Many people struggle to do that.

Are there many years between now and the last time you were near that weight?
It could be age related.

It could also be, as the other person said, the weight you are meant to be (what is your body's comfort zone)

In a situation like this, I would talk to your doctor. If you have been maintaining this weight steadily all these years with your exercise and eating, maybe it is the weight you are meant to be. Would you say you're more muscular than you were when you were last 120lbs? I bet you look absolutely amazingly toned. I can understand how it is probably a mental thing, that you really want to get that weight again, but maybe-JUST maybe-you are perfect the way you are.

I struggle with when I think my results are not good enough. It's a daily struggle for me. I am so close to goal and can't seem to achieve it and then I seem to get down and want to beat myself up for not loosing these last 6 pounds.

Anyone else have this issue and/or what to do about it? I do think it falls inline with perfectionism which I have also struggled with all my life. Any suggestions?

Not even sure the 6 pound loss is doable either without very strict lean and clean diet and I mean strict, since I have been at this for 4 years now and have maintained this weight for the last 2 years.
