muscle milk

Properly made kefir. at least that which I make, borders on being a very thin yogurt. To make it you obtain kefir grains from variety of sources then add milk. Kefir ferments on the counter at room temperature which makes it easy to make. I bring milk to about 90 degrees then add it to a wide mouth quart canning jar with the kefir grains. I cover the top with cheesecloth and secure it with the jar ring. It sits on the counter for from 12 to 18 hours and is done. Before you drink it you strain out the kefir grains for the next batch, the grains are self propagating so over time they will increase in volume and number.

I use pea powder. Primarily, because it has only one ingredient. Peas. Read the label. Some of the other sources have a great many artificial ingredients.
Ultimately, it comes down to what is most palatable to you.

SERGEANTMAJOR: LOL on your cat!! Its amazing what some cats adopt as their favorites!

Out of curiosity...when you say you prepare your kefir from do you go about it? The only kefir I've ever had was a watery concoction which I don't think even the lady's goats would touch! The best I could guess was that it was a water & honey base...but wasn't sure. (Frankly, it reminded me of the liquor off a bad batch of sourdough.....!) I wouldn't mind trying something that might be healthier and tastier than that....

I suggest you stay away from soy based protein powders since the whey ones are easier to assimilate. Make sure you read the label some which tout being whey protein also have soy added. I use kefir to make my protein shakes so I get added protein from the kefir which I make using 2% milk so I know it is just fermented milk.

With regard to taste peoples preferences vary so you will have to experiment to find a flavour you like. The stuff JM touts I would not buy since it is over priced and I also would not feed it to my cats.

Speaking of which my alpha tomcat is addicted to kefir.and lurks in the kitchen when I am making a new batch knowing that he will get to clean the utensils before they are washed.

I use Profit.. It's low cal, made of non-hormonal and non-GMO whey and soy proteins.has added antioxidants, fiber, and enzymes which help you better absorb the protein! NO arartificial ingredients! tastes amazing! I love it! I used to be a fan of shakeology but this is much cheaper and tastes better!

I personally like Garden of Life's Raw Protein - vanilla flavor so I can add other things to it.

I am looking for a good quality protein powder to use in my smoothies. Any recommendations?
