Christmas shopping, we have to go so far from home to shop that you are almost guaranteed to be eating out, maybe even more than once in a day. I try to take healthy snacks and pack lunches when I know we will be gone for most of the day.

I go back to my hometown and see a whole lot of friends--breakfast out, lunch out, drinks, dinner, more drinks. And then family dinners and breakfasts. It's too cold and snowy usually to suggest something like a walk instead of meeting in a bar, but I have arranged for a pedicure date with one of my friends.

Baking trays of Nanimo Bars -- 11 x 17 pans which we put in tins and give to friends and family.....hmmmm
Going back to my hometown. There aren't many healthy/non-chain restaurants and most bars don't really even serve wine, so getting together with old friends to go out is difficult. Plus staying at my parents' house, as they don't eat nearly as healthy as my bf and I do, and their house is full of things I don't normally eat or keep in our house.
One positive is that I should have more free time while I'm there, and will hopefully get in a lot of good workouts!
Eating the holiday pot lucks with co-workers and at different family homes.

I usually bake a huge tray of holiday goodies with my kids for our neighbors and friends. I know my kids have already brought it up this year. I was hoping to get away with out doing it but I think its just tradition.
going to work.......During the holidays there are candies, cookies, pizza, burgers, hotdogs, and assorted ethnic goodies (like biriani) that are offered to me because they love me so much (and are trying to kill me evidently).... I have tried to say no to those things and was partially successful a couple years ago...actually changed the class tradition from junk food to fruit skewers for parties...... Not this year though. My first two 'presents were gift cards with 6 lbs of candy.

Family events, I love my family, but getting together can cause a major bout of over eating
Traveling and staying with family. They go out of their way to make delicious dinners and many of the breakfasts are carb-heavy. Planning to have a discussion with them before I go to bring them up to speed on my lower-carb plan and ask them to stock up on some items for me so I have at least some healthy alternatives.

I put a small heart on the palm of my hand every day during the holidays to remind myself not to undo every effort I've made at this point. It is amazing how long it takes to loose a pound and how fast you can gain it back. No one else has to know what it means but you.

It takes a lot of will power to pass up all the special cookies, candies, etc that folks want to share at the office. Going to have to keep a mental picture that I do not want to look "more" like Mrs. Claus after the holidays.

Mine is baking. I love to bake and to eat what I bake. My problem this year is I want to bake, but most everyone is on a diet or eating healthier etc so should we bakers bake? Even lower calorie recipes can blow someone else's diet.
Baking cookies and candy for gifts( most of it). I won't give someone goodies for the holiday until I try them---then of course I have favorites which some I will not be baking this year

If I get too upset I am more likely to eat more than I should. Today I went to my writing club. A man shared an idea for a book he wanted to sell that involved a serial killer and a 10 year old girl. I did the right thing by walking out of the meeting before I had to listen to any more. I did two great things for my diet. I got exercise by walking to the meeting and I avoided anxiety by walking out of the meeting.

family togethers. Besides Christmas, we have a big wedding too. granddaughter getting married on Jan 3rd.
traveling- a tendency to rely on convenience food or fast food, less opportunity/energy for exercise, increased stress level
unhealthy food gifts- being given large quantities of something like homemade cookies and not wanting it around but not wanting to just toss it because it was a gift.

Visiting is probably my biggest challenge. The next would be holiday baking. I love to give people Christmas cookies as gifts, but that comes with a price to my waistline.

Visiting is the worst for me - dining out is okay because I generally stick to healthy salads, dressing on the side. However, when visiting friends/family for dinner it's really hard to limit alcohol and food intake without seeming rude. That's what I struggle with for sure.

Dining out and traveling for me.
When dining out the temptations are too great and when traveling you pretty much have to live off of restaurant food.

Which activity do you really have to watch out for? Traveling? Visiting? Baking? Dining Out? Decorating? Is there is any time or situation that has traps or more opportunities to overeat? Please share.
