After reading your post the other day, I went home and tried the greek yogurt instead of sour cream trick in a brown rice and chicken taco seasoned meal.
Family was clueless. And the loved the meal.

I've recently switched to Greek Yogurt and it's taken trial and error to find the ones that I like best. My favorite are the strawberry ones from Chobani and Dannon. I've tried blueberry and REALLY didn't like it. I also buy vanilla and plain to substitute for sour cream but only when I'm going to mix it with something else. So far my 2 favorite ways to use Greek yogurt are for a garlic aioli sauce and mixing the yogurt with hot sauce to use for dipping. The recipe for the garlic aioli is:
4 tbsp of Light or FF Mayo 4 tbsp of FF Greek Vanilla or Plain yogurt 2 minced cloves of garlic pepper to taste.

A 5-6 oz. carton of plain Greek yogurt (non-fat, 2% or otherwise) costs anywhere from 89 cents to $1.49 depending on what brand you buy. Just buy a little carton of it. Taste it. If you don't like the taste of it to use for cooking, then sweeten it with some jam and eat it that way. But for that amount of money, I don't think you are taking a big chance.

IMO yogurt of any kind is an acquired taste. I buy Oikos Greek plain yogurt because it's so good for me.......and I love adding blueberries that I grow to it with a little Splenda. For most people, it is too sour, but I like it with or without honey or other sweeteners. YUM! Smooth and creamy Greek yogurt.....sooooo good.

I mix it with strawberries and some splenda for my afternoon snack. It's got a lot of protein in it and keeps me full for several hours.

I really like it. Doesn't have the tart taste as some yogurts do. It is a nice texture and can be used in place of sour cream. I add seasoning to it and thin it a bit for salad dressing. Add a pack of Splenda ( and sometimes a little vanilla) for a dessert. I heard you can add half a tube of fruit flavor Crystal Light and stir it for a dessert. I have not tried that yet.

I dont think it has a bad flavor, the consistency is a lot like softened cream cheese. I refuse to eat it though, because it made me feel so full I was sick to my stomach and it kept me feeling that way for almost a whole 8 hours. And I only had one serving and that was at breakfast. My stomach felt completely plum full all day long. So I guess maybe for some if they are trying to eat a lot less then usual this may work. But everyone isnt the same, this happened to me when I ate it, but may not ever have happend to anyone else. lol I could just be the odd one. Overall I would say go try it. The flavor is pretty good.

I have never had the plain, But the fruit on the bottoms ones are very good and are not as sweet as the other yogurts.

Depends on which brand you buy I like the non fat one made by astra it is thick and creamy and I add fruit to it.

To me, it's slightly sour, somewhat thick and creamy.
I like it but I don't love it. I don't what all the craze was about. It is definitely a little higher in calories than yogurts I typically eat. Overall it's okay but nothing to write home about.

The taste and consistency of Greek yogurt does vary from brand to brand. Do you like yogurt that is slightly sour tasting as well as has a thick consistency ? If so, you'll like Greek yogurt. BUT, if you prefer yogurt that is heavily sweetened, which many are, you might not like it.
Personally, my two favorite brands of Greek yogurt are FAGE and Chobani. The FAGE is thicker than the Chobani. So, if you are looking for something closer to sour cream, then buy the Chobani plain Greek yogurt because it is smoother in consistency.

I think what you should do is go buy a small container and try it. The most you'll be out is $1.
If you're looking for something to sub for sour cream- have you tried "light" sour cream...or fat free sour cream? I hated fat free at first, but now I've gotten used to it and I'm ok with it.
It is a bit like sour cream. The best part honestly is the texture. I generally have to add some honey to it.

Greek yogurt takes on any taste you add to it.. It the healthy equal to cream but if you want cream, vanilla and sweetner will definitely make it taste better.. I make it to taste like chocolate yogurt and even add rum essence and raisins to it.. xx Red

I think if you taste it on its own, it doesn't taste like sour cream. However, I have it on waffles, tacos, baked potatoes, and I find it decilious! I don't usually eat it as yogurt though. I replaced buying sour cream and my husband hasn't even noticed!

It's a bit tart and creamy, similar to sour cream. Packed with protein and delicious with fresh fruit. I find it a very satisfying substitute for sour cream as a topper.

It is tangy and very creamy. It has a heavier texture than sour cream.
I'm considering buying it to replace higher fat things like sour cream etc and to cook/bake with. I dont want to buy it and waste my money if I will hate it. Can someone comment on what it tastes like to them? Is it bitter? Does it taste similar to sour cream?...hmmm
