I tell myself I am going to live a long healthy happy life, and you are so worth the struggle. Life is full of choices, and I choose to be healthy. I will win the war on the bulge. Then I get up, shake the depressed dust off me and get to moving.

I remind myself that I am worth this struggle. I try to focus on the positives of the day. There is always something positive. I drank my water, ate chips from a bowl and not from the bag, the things I are were healthy. I recognize that I am human and I can't be perfect. That doesn't mean I can't win this fight.
Return to Sparkpeople! Reading the success stories and seeing so much support reminds me I can do it!

the other day i didn't want to exercise, but i literally told myself, "just 10 minutes." Then that turned into half an hour! And then, a day or so before that it was my running day and I didn't want to, but I told myself, "it is just 1 minute at a time - you can do that!" (I do intervals and am just starting)... and it worked! and then I played handball for half an hour!

I always tell myself that each moment is a choice, and sometimes that choice means we take a day to be depressed and figure out how we got there. When we're done we pick ourselves back up and trudge on. I hope you feel better!
Visit my spark buddies, they give me support and encouragement. Read success stories and blogs lots of good ideas and encouragement. I also check and see how my spark teams are doing. This gets me back to positive thinking.

Make a dream book if you haven't done so already (with inspiring photos and quotes of where you envision yourself being in the future... weight loss, etc). Then when you are feeling down, go back to this and spend time thinking about your goals and your future. It will help you dwell on the positive feelings of what you plan to accomplish rather than the negative feelings of how you've messed up.
I take a rest for a day or two to regroup then switch my activities . Revamp my menu , read nutritional information - I pack a back pack full of news papers that wiegh the amount of the weight that I lost and carry that around for a while and remind myself that I never want to go back to that again - not because of vanity for my health.

To keep from getting discouraged, I come to this site for motivation and inspiration..oh and I will sometimes look for some tasty recipes.
I make sure I visit Sparkpeople everyday or even when I start feeling low and for sure I am encouraged after I do.
Look in a mirror somewhere in my home and smile and repeat " I'm worth it!"

I frequently visit SP web site so that I don't lose that idea of controlling my nutrition and getting fit from the top of my daily todo list. That and posting to the forum helps me stay motivated. Every question being asked and replied in the forum stirs thoughts that primes my mind for controlling my nutrition and keeping track of my exercise.
Also the after-exercise feeling of relief is just too great to miss.

I find it really helpful to look back at my workout log and see what I was doing 6 months ago, a year ago, a few years ago, when I was in better shape. It's not that I can't do things, it's that I'm not doing things.
I look at my before photos...and remember to take it one day at a time.

Yesterday I too went off track. Chinese buffet with mom-in-law, need I say more? Yes, it is frustrating. However, you must remember that this is not neccessarily all or nothing. It is a change in your whole way of doing things. Are you never going to have chocolate cake or nachos or whatever again. Yea, you probably will. One day does not undo it all! If you notice, thin people eat well, sure, but they also "pig out" on occasion then go back to their healthier choices. It's a change in your lifestyle AND in your view of lifestyle. So what. Do better the next day. Eat healthy, exercise, do what it is that will benefit you and blow off the other. You got this!!!

I remind myself WHY I am doing this in the 1st place and that I am fortunate to have enough of my health back to do it at all. It always has the same effect - makes me feel grateful that I am in remission and that God is Good!

I WATCH THE YOUTUBE VIDEO CALLED "NEVER, EVER GIVE UP" IT MOVES ME EVERY TIME.
I guess my response varies. I sometimes try something new (new exercise, new class, new recipe); I sometimes try to schedule a walk or Zumba class with a friend that is always positive and motivating; and I sometimes just give myself a day off from the exercise for rest and recovery. For food, I allow occasional treats (which helps me not go too crazy when I walk past my favorite bakery). If I got totally off the rails, which luckily hasn't happened yet! (For me, totally off the rails equals no exercise; not eating right; not tracking; not getting enough rest; totally stressed out) I would do a total re-set and start from scratch again with easy healthy habits and build from there.
You just keep pushing along... eventually you find your momentum again! Everyone has their bad days, it's nothing to get depressed about. Choose to not let it get to you, and choose to look ahead to what is a possibility. Once you get going, it becomes a habit and you'll want to keep pushing along.

Sometimes I just need to rest or not thinktoo hard about nutrition and exercise. It does not mean that I totally abandon them. I cycle through intense periods of planning, tracking, etc... and then take mini breaks but never just abandon new healthy habits. I am finally "getting it." There is no real end to this journey just lots of new beginnings. You CANNOT just go back to your old ways after the weight is off. Information, inspiration, and motivation are found here at Spark. But with this too, i need a break sometimes. Just never go back to old, bad habits. There is a big difference in falling off the wagon and jumping off! We can do this. Many are doing it. Look them up. This is my motivation. Keep Sparking!

Motivation and exercise are a catch 22. If you start slow on any day at exercising after about 5-10 minutes the endorphins will be produced and this will fuel you motivation. The trick is allowing yourself to commit to doing it. It needs to become as much a habit as eating. We don't put a lot of thought into how we chew. The same in habit formation to exercise. I have a set time, place and basic routine, so everyone knows it and I especially adhere to it. It's easy to allow other external and internal issues to interfere but you must first want to change.

I remind myself that this isn’t about one good day or one bad day. It’s about having more good days than bad days. Because bad days happen. But I can learn from it and try to do better tomorrow.
My bad days are usually because I went overboard with the food. Even if I blow it with my food, I try to get some sort of exercise in, even if it’s only a few minutes. That helps me feel like it’s not completely hopeless.
Also, signing onto SP and reading blogs or message boards helps! Lots of amazing and inspiring stories here!

On SP, I: 1.) blog - to vent and think 2.) click on "success stories" for inspiration 3.) made my ticker and trackers public for accountability 4.) select a tiny, manageable goal for the week
Then I hit the gym (against my will), get on an elliptical and crank the resistance way up so that I'm not moving fast, but I am slowly sweating out the frustration or lack of motivation. And then I usually blog about it again.

When I lose my motivation, I THINK. I remember why I am choosing to eat healthy and exercise regularly. I read my posted list of motivating reasons and then remember that I am changing my thinking, which will change my behaviors. I remember why I am going for that run today, or to the strength training class, or choosing to turn down my favorite sugary treats.
Work the mind. The body will follow. Weight loss and fitness are 90% in your mind, then you can get your body to do the work it needs to do.

You didn't blow all of your hard work. NOT AT ALL. You had ONE DAY of making less healthy decisions, that's all. That one day cannot erase all the good you've done for your body already.
You must stop thinking of this as an all or nothing program. You are on a journey to better health and fitness and, like any journey, there will be bumps in the road. Don't beat yourself up with guilt. Don't be so hard on yourself. None of us are ever perfect. Perfection isn't what this is about.

I'm never unmotivated, because I know what my goals are, and want to acheive them. Every. Single. Day.
I think your signature is exactly what I do - I remind myself each day is another step, and a year from now I'll have wished I made that step today, rather than later. It also helps me to remind myself that I HAVE been working hard, and that one day doesn't undo everything - it's a minor setback - but if I keep on that path I will end up undoing everything.
Everything you do is an opportunity to make a choice. You may have made choices yesterday that you don't like, but today is a new day with new choices.
