I am gluten-free for health reasons. Wheat and wheat products cause more inflammation in my gut that either causes or adds to symptoms of brain fog, fatigue, muscle aches and pain, sleep trouble, etc... but thankfully there is no shortage of flours and starches to eat and bake with.

It has been getting a bad rap. Unless you have health reasons related to it there is no reason to cut it out of your eating plan.

Everything in moderation as long as you don't have a medical reason to cut something out of your diet. Wheat products do have nutritional value, some people's bodies just can't process them properly.

I don't see any reason to cut out gluten or pretty much anything else unless you're allergic to it. Everything in moderation. Cutting out gluten doesn't mean your diet is healthy or nutritious and I feel like too many people think that removing gluten does make their diet suddenly healthy.

I wish I could find it now, but I cant. There was a really good article in the Nov. issue of Redbook about gluten free diets and how there are very few people that actually need to be on them. People with celiac desease (
h_a-z_detail.asp?AZ=85) need be to on a gluten free diet because gluten can cause inflammation of the small intestine. However, that does not affect many people, and people that dont have that disease dont really have any reason to stay away from gluten. In fact, being gluten free can make it harder to get some of the nutrients you need like fiber.

There is no reason to cut out gluten, unless you have a medical reason. It won't hurt you, or make you fat, or anything like that. No food is bad for you in moderation.

My thoughts are that a lot of people cut out gluten containing foods quite unnecessarily. In the process they also cut out a lot of important nutrients. It is one thing to cut it out because of genuine allergy/intolerance, but a lot of people self-diagnose and they are way off track. I know a person who has cut out all gluten foods whereas in fact their allergy is only to wheat - not gluten!

A lot of people WRITE books without the the qualifications and/or facts to back them up. They write AS fact, their own THEORY!

A friend of mine was telling me she is reading a book about she is a Vegan and has now cut out Gluten. She was sharing how bad it is for you... BUT i JUST started vocusing on eating wheat thinking this was an healthier option. Now I am CONFUSED?? Can anyone help shed some light on this? emoticon
