It may affect the dish a bit using a different bean, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. :)

I personally do not care for lentils, I just stick to beans.

It's better to use lentils- they taste so much better than beans - but if you must replace with kidney beans or 4 bean mix. For vegetarians like me lentils give a more meaty flavour when you add the right herbs.

I don't cook mine - I'm lazy. Try the canned food section next to the canned beans. You can buy them pre cooked and ready to go.

You will love lentils once you have tried them. I make a pot each weekend and then throw them in salads, soups, rice, greens, whatever, throughout the week. Enjoy!

Lentils are available in many different colors, the most popular is the brownish green one. They are very nutritous and have been known in helping reduce cholesterol as well as blood sugar levels. there are canned lentils & they are as much nutritious as the cooked ones, but get the ones that dont have extra salt added. They are high in fiber, vitamins and minerals. Look by the rice and they mostly likely will come in a plastic sleeve and usually are inexpensive...$1.29 a bag.

I make lentils with a handful of matchstick carrots and a low sodium beef boillion cube, cook for about 20-30 minutes and you have a great soup and great nutrtion that is low in calories. Super easy!

Lentils are a specific kind of dried legume. You can find them in the section of your supermarket with rice and other dried beans, usually. You can't substitute other dried beans for them since lentils cook faster than other dried beans -- they only take about half an hour. Other dried beans need to be soaked overnight and then cooked. Hope that helps!

Have a recipe saying lentils and not sure what to buy, OR can I substitute ANY bean?
