The new shoes really supports ankle. I find the arch a bit high but it's ok. Mowed the lawn for an hour and went for a walk. So dang hot here!

The proper shoes are key to any activity.

Rest and ice your ankle. If it gets worse, you might have sprained it. Get it X-rayed to be sure.

Thanks. I changed my shoes and things were a lot better. Then I turned my ankle. Ouch. I am resting it today. No extra walking, as I walk alot for work. It's not really sore, but its swelling. So now I will look up some exercises to get it back in shape-- in a few days.

First thing's first: When something hurts, DO NOT force yourself to continue. You likely exacerbated the injury doing that. Pain is your body's sign something is wrong.

How are your shoes? Did you get a proper pair of fitted walking shoes, or did you grab an old pair of sneakers from the closet? Are you taking rest days? If it's been a long time since you've walked, you may be overdoing it.

I'd bet the strain is just because you added onto your fitness routine. I'd do it a few more times but with more rest days in between to recover better

Is it the back of your leg the calves or the front/side of your leg?

If its the back then it is probably just you getting used to a new exercise routine, take it slower and eventually you will build up the strength to do it no problem.

If it's the front/side, it is a problem of overusing the muscle and you have to really slow down and decrease what you are doing until it heals up and then slowly (agonizingly slowly) build up until you can go a further distance.

At least, this is what it is for me, I hope that helps!

Back when I was young and a hiker, I found that it was always my calves that hurt the most durning a workout, and my thighs that hurt the day after.

Especially after I added hills/incline or distance. the calf just takes so much of that, if you are going up or down more than you did, that might do it.

take with a huge grain of salt, but i would say try this new pattern/path you are doing for 1-2 weeks, and see if it gets better. If not, maybe check with a doc or physio type person.

I have been walking for some time now usually 5 times a week. Recently I changed my route and added 2 kms. My calved hurt so bad when I walk that I forcing myself to go on. After a brief rest all is well. I really want to enjoys walking again. Any ideas?
