I have made my own and love them - your combinations sound great. I also have tweaked recipes.... and sauces. My daughter's favourite so far was a sort of giant falafel one - with parsley, chickpeas, butternut, crushed cornflakes, and some chilli added in...There was more flavouring but can't quite remember.
I like them and I haven't even had a home made one! I'll have to give it a try

I've made veggie burgers, used black beans, lentils, or that bag of stuff that is dry and you add liquid to it so it looks like ground beef, but, the ones you buy in the store taste alot better to me. I'm the only one in the family who eats them, so will just continue to buy them, even though I'm not vegetarian, it's just something quick and different and it has the right amount of calories for my daily meals. I usually make one burger, and plop a fried egg on top of it. Then just add veggies or a spinach salad.

I've got black bean burgers on our menu this week but haven't made them yet. See the link to the recipe. We're a vegetarian family with a vegan daughter so I should really be doing this more often! I started trying them to get more Soy into my diet. I liked the Boca Burger best and ate it just like I would a regular burger. I did have a couple at some restaurants that were good, too. I don't know what kind they were. Now we're into fresh ground turkey burgers. I don't like processed ones, though.
Haven't made my own yet, but have been meaning to, especially since the SO eats them so much and it might be economical to make our own. I'd like to do black bean and beet burgers, actually.
What I have done are little 'fritters' ... of course falafel, but also some lentil fritters. I usually bake them rather than fry them. So basically a legume, cooked, drained and then mashed or such, some herbs (e.g. cilantro), some spices and seasoning, perhaps a little baking powder, all formed into balls, and left to set up or rest a while, frequently in the freezer, before frying or baking.
But none of these have been exactly the size or shape of a 'burger' ...

Never thought of making my own veggie burgers. I can't stand any of the ones I've tried from the store -- they eventually get thrown out for lack of interest. Now, you've given me a new idea. There's some experimentation on the horizon! Thanks.

QUEEN3510VA: I actually found recipes for these veggies online, but I didn't follow them exactly and I tweaked around with them. I got one from a website and the other from a weight loss blog (which I highly recommend checking out - the girl who runs it has a lot of healthy recipes and great tips for healthy lifestyles.)

Do you have a recipe with the amounts of each ingredient? I would love to try and make these. Sounds delicious. We buy the morningstar, light life, or gardein burgers. They are tasty but yours sound much healthier. Thank you for sharing.

Lately I've been experimenting with veggie burgers, and by that I mean making them from scratch myself. Right after making the patties I bake them, let them cool, and pop them in the freezer and eat them throughout the week for lunch. About a week and a half ago I made burgers out of chickpeas, spinach, onion, flaxseed, black pepper, dill and tarragon. As I'm typing this now I have some patties in the oven that I made from sweet potatoes, black beans, corn, onion, quinoa, flaxseed, tarragon, basil, black pepper, and a little lemon olive oil. I'm starting to really like making these veggie burgers myself - they taste a lot better (and are much healthier, or so I like to think) than the ones you'd buy in the freezer section, and it's fun to be able to experiment and try new combinations out.
Does anyone else make their own veggie burgers? What do you put in them?
