I have lost a ton of weight but certainly haven't lost 2" off my waist! I have everywhere else tho'.

While that gain may be unexpected, it's actually not unusual. Ever notice your weight goes up during TOM ? Most women tend to "gain" weight during their menstrual cycle. Is that a fat gain ? Nope. It's nothing more than a temporary water weight gain that passes in a few days.

Are you near your cycle ? If so, that would explain the gain. During my cycle, I can easily gain and lose as much as 5-7 pounds. I've gained as much as 3-4 pounds in a day because of water retention.

If you know you haven't eaten an excess of at least 20,500+ calories, then you know you didn't gain fat. In order to truly gain one pound of fat, a person would need to eat an extra 3,500 calories on top of their normal intake. So, if you know you haven't been overeating for the last 2-3 months, then you didn't gain fat.

You're just retaining water. Not to get TMI, but did you have a bowel movement before you weighed yourself ? most people don't realize that their waste products can weigh quite a bit.

so, don't beat yourself up because the scale went up. if you know you've been eating moderately, then you didn't gain fat. you're just retaining water.

Don't be demoralized. I would take your 2inch lost off the weight over my few pound loss any day.

The girl who responded before me was right on so many levels. First off, your body weight fluctuates daily depending on the fluids and other things consumed. I've seen my body gain 7 lbs in one day after weighing myself after waking up, and then weighing again mid day.

If you are seeing progress don't focus on the increase on the scale. Keep on going, your hard work WILL and IS paying off. emoticon

Try not to get too concerned right now. Remember our weight can vary by as much as 7 pounds in the course of a single day. Also note that your doc's scale may not be calibrated on a regular basis and that can throw off the number too. If you truly gained 9 pounds, I would suspect that you would notice it by the way your clothes fit.

That being said, make sure you are eating within the calorie range that SparkPeople has generated for your based on the calories burn goal. Make sure, too, that you are not overestimating your calories burn goal. And give it a few more weeks and see how things go.

That's funny, we're in the same boat. I was 157, and now I'm 164, even though I'm working out way more than I ever did. Still my measurements are the smallest they've ever been.

Hey, if your waist is still smaller, and your waist to hip ratio is bigger, then your looking good and getting healthier. Yeah, everyone says it's just a number, but I know it's got power. Just try not to give it too much, you're healthier, sexier, and slimmer, so poo on numbers. It does suck to be let down like that, when you're really excited to see the results.
a) it could be muscle
b) it can vary a lot over the day, and month, depending on you cycle and how much water your drinking.
c) It isn't displayed on your forehead, so everyone's going to see your waist well before they know your weight.
d) who knows what was going on with your body 3 months ago, that's a long time, and 7lbs isn't a lot.

Keep going, you've got all those healthy habits now. Don't think of the scale, think of the swimsuits you'll wear!

I thought I had been doing quite well losing weight I have been tracking my success using measurements as a only get weighed at my doctors every 12 weeks. I have manages to lose 2 inches off my waist (a little slower than I wanted but still progress). I also reduced my calories intake to an average of 1400cal per week and increase activity to burn just under 2000 cal a week. I was tracking everything without cheating so overall I thought I was doing ok.

Then I got weigh today, I’ve gone from 156LB to 165lb in twelve weeks. I am totally floored that I ve actually managed to gain weight instead of losing it. Now my motivation is totally gone to put in so much effort to gain weight.
