Well, to be fair about topics this is posted on the front page of the Cafe':

"General, fun discussion about a variety of topics. Please post one-word answer and game threads in the Game Room, not in the Cafe."

One would have to read the actual guidelines to know NOT to post political and/or religious views......sooooo, say the Cafe' should only be about health is not exactly correct.

I actually don't mind political posts so long as they are discussions rather than "MY OPINION IS THE ONLY FACTUAL OPINION" approach, which has happened many times here in the café.

I would perfer not to have to be subject to peoples political views here..there are other places for that. I am sooo feed up with all that stuff we can do very little about but gripe emoticon

I'm pretty vocal but in the right context.

I mean, I don't want to read about someone's workout on a page for politics. Why do I want to read about politics where I go to talk about health stuff?

It TOTALLY matters because time and again I see my SP friends post political threads venting about the opposite side and then get mad when their posts are reported and then deleted. I am providing links to SP teams that specifically for right or left politics so that they may have a place to post their political concerns.

If you meant what does it really matter in terms of why even post a political thread to begin with then, yeah, you may just have a point there.

btw, I was stationed at Fort Ord, CA (late 80's) and I LOVED the Monterey Bay Area except for one thing; 300 days out of the year "Today's weather will be sunny, 72 and breezy"

Are Canadians allowed to post? My son was born in Monterey CA and has dual citizenship!

LOL! I have already learned my lesson here at SP a few years ago about politically natured threads so if you've noticed, I don't post them anymore. However, many folks seem to want to jab at something political and/or try to convert us heathens via religious posts so I thought I'd do us all a favor and post political SP teams. You should join one!

Proboards has several. There is a group there from the old MSN message boards (MSN closed their boards several years ago).

Well, I am very political, a bit strident and I love to argue...but it just doesn't occur to me to want to post about these topics in the context of Sparkpeople, since we are here to talk about health, weight loss, fitness, diet, wellness, etc.

KJ, maybe you need to find a more general board for expression on political topics. Have you tried sites like Reddit? I wonder if other Sparklers might have suggestions about good general message boards for political and other debate?

Here in the SP Cafe' our political views are quashed due to the Café Posting Guidelines but below are links to two teams that may be better suited for our political outcries:
