Everyone has different taste. Personally I love it plain. Some people can't eat it without sugar but you might want to try stevia or something similar. If that doesn't work, well luckily I'm sure you can find something else that has the same benefits you are looking for.

I don't like grapefruit, so I don't eat it. For those that do enjoy it, be aware that it can interact with medications.

I love grapefruit! But having said that you really have to be careful how and when you eat it. You cannot have ANYTHING sweet before eating it. And that includes toothpaste or coffee with any kind of sweetener. Because that will give a very sour taste to the grapefruit. I agree about the white rind being better bitter so you need to peel it well. However, I disagree that the membrane surrounding each section is bitter. It really isn't and provides good fiber.

My guilty pleasure is the tiniest bit of salt on the grapefruit when eating cut in half. The salt brings out the sweetness in the grapefruit. (And, yes, I am the one who also like anchovies on my pizza and thinks margaritas are all about the salt on the rim.......)

In my opinion the best way to eat grapefruit is to broil them. You cut them in half, slice each section leaving it in the grapefruit. Sprinkle on either stevia or sugar and broil for about 5 to 10 minutes until you can see if browning slightly. It's delicious, but I also love grapefruits in general.

a little stevia... for sweetness... I cut in half and then cut it out in sections like an orange... then remove all the pieces to a bowl.. sometimes mix with oranges... or mix with papaya and pineapple, banana and oranges for a tropical fruit bowl

Like the OP, I sometimes add a little bit of artificial sweetener.

Grapefruit may be healthy and good for you, but I hope you haven't bought into that diet myth that it has "negative calories" or it causes you to burn other calories faster.
If you don't like it, there's other yummy low-cal fruits instead - try raspberries! and ditch the grapefruit, which isn't going to magically make the weight melt off.

My sister is always telling me eat this, eat's good for you. Well, I say it's only good for you if you like it. Personally, I do like grapefruit so long as it is sprinkled with a little sweetener. I find quite refreshing. But just as those foods my sister is always after me about, it you don't like it doesn't matter if it's suppose to be good for you. No problem...there are plenty of good food choices that can be satisfying and refreshing for each of us.

I have been known to put grapefruit in salad. If you search for "Spinach Grapefruit" salad (or better yet, Spinach Grapefruit Shrimp salad, or best of all, all of the above plus avocado), there's quite a few good recipes to pick from.

Just by itself, grapefruit might be a bit of an acquired taste. You really do have to take *all* the membrane off each section and just eat the squishy juice bits inside. The membrane around each section is tough and bitter.

I don't like grapefruit at all.... but I don't mind grapefruit juice in small amounts. So, if you don't like it, maybe try juicing them and see if you like it that way. Also google for "recipes using grapefruit" and you'll come up with a lot of recipes that use stuff like the zest of the outside, and the juice, for more savory dishes.

as a kid I used to eat it with sugar...guess that isn't such a healthy way

If you don't like it, then don't eat it. I know it stinks you bought them have wasted the money, but it is a lesson learned.

Personally, I like grapefruit in small quantities, but could never eat a whole one. Perhaps you could cut them up and use them in a fruit salad with other fruits?

I don't eat grapefruit, unless, I totally, peel it, and all skin, off, and then it is so sweet, you can't believe it, but you have to totally, peel everything, so worth it.

Nothing 'gross' about grapefruit or any other regular food, but if you don't like it, don't eat it. Life's too short, etc.

As for how I've always eaten and enjoyed it -- cut in half, then the little wedges/segments/pockets loosened with a knife, a little powdered sugar (~ 1/2 tsp) sprinkled on top, and the segments scooped out with a spoon. Then the remaining juice ... yum!

I'm agreeing with if you REALLY don't like it, then don't eat it.

Life is too short, and losing weight too hard... to fill it with foods you don't even like to eat.

I know that limes, arugula and olives... they are all good for me, I hate them, so no way I'm going to waste calories on something I don't like.

You can get the healthy benefits of fibre and vitamin C from eating oranges instead.

I can't stand grapefruit. No matter what kind I've tried, I just don't like it. So I don't eat it, and you don't have to, either. :)

I love Grapefruit! Make sure you are removing the white "pith" (the white part next to the inside of the peel) and the white membrane that encases each section --these are what tastes nasty!

If you don't like grapefruit then you don't need to eat it.
You can eat an orange which also has Vitamin C, fiber and antioxidants if you prefer the taste over grapefruit.

I love grapefruit! The ruby red ones are the sweetest, followed by pink ones, and lastly are the plain yellow ones.

Even though I love grapefruit, sometimes they are indeed too sour. So I'll sprinkle on a little sweetener. I have no problem using artificial sweeteners in small quantities, but some people prefer stevia, or even "real" sugar, in small quantities.

The grapefruits that are yellow outside but pink on the inside are usually the tastiest.

I love hot cinnamon grapefruit! Sprinkle a grapefruit half with cinnamon and a dash of sweetener that you like. Microwave for 10-15 seconds. Yum.
