There are actually 2 ways to track these and it is your choice and usually based on how the food is being used.
If the bean is being used as your protein source for your meal then count it as your protein food. If you are using it as a side dish, then you would probably count it as a vegetable serving. Sometimes people (especially someone with diabetes) will even count the bean as a grain substitute.
Count it in only 1 group based on its usage in your meal.
