Thank you, I am still wearing a support when I have to put weight on it, but if lying down, take it off. I am still being very careful and stretching it gently

My training friend sprained her ankle when she fell of a golf cart. We changed the workouts from running 8:30 miles to walking a 20 minute mile and drastically dropped our distance for two weeks while she let it heal. Then we slowly started incorporating the running in at a much slower pace and increasing the distance again. I think she gave it close to six weeks before she felt full strength again.

I'd keep it on for a day or two and then start wearing less and less. It's only doing anything when you're putting weight on your foot. I tend to think of ankle braces (and any other brace) as a crutch, good for when I'm trying to let the damaged ligaments heal, but to be weaned off as I recover.

If I have my ankle support on it is fine, a little sore, but nothing too serious.

I still have my ankle support (which is fabric) on, should I take it off now I am in the house?

Also, ankle braces do nothing to make your ankle stronger - they can actually make it weaker or hinder your recovery if you wear it too much since you come to rely on it rather than the muscles in your ankle. Like the PP said, rest it for a couple of days and then *gradually* come back to normal use, paying attention to any signs of weakness or pain in the ankle.

When to call a doctor for an ankle sprain according to WebMD:

If your symptoms are not severe enough to call a doctor, then I would stay off the ankle for a few days anyway, until it feels like you can walk comfortably.

There are sitting workouts you can do, or you can simply reduce calories until you can increase your activity again.

Keep an eye on it, though! I know someone who walked for a whole week on a broken foot before she went to a doctor and then had to have surgeries to correct the damage.

Hi there,

today whilst carry heavy bags, by accident I tripped up and twisted my ankle, immediately I went to the chemist and bought an ankle support. Once home I put on a cold compress, and now am wondering if I should stop for a few days and not go for my walks?

Any advice please?
