Depends on how many people... but in spring it is hard to go wrong with ham or something like a baked chicken dish. I'd do something similar to our Easter dinner, with ham, salad, veggies, maybe angel food cake with strawberries...

It would not be a bad idea to ask your son what he'd prefer!

Blessings to all! emoticon

Usually when we had these kind of gatherings it was buffet style rather than family style.

We usually did sandwiches, but to keep them healthier-- instead of buying lunch meat (which i find yucky), make up some roasts a few days prior, slice them up and put them on a platter.
make a huge green salad and some fruit salad too.

family menu, reception, church gathering?
not quite sure which direction you're heading with the question.

if family menu, a nice protein source, cooked without a lot of sauces and stuff like that, well seasoned, should be well received (chicken is good, as is nearly any poultry).

Vegetables on the side, steamed or baked - nice rich colours (oranges, bright greens)

Rice for those who require extra carbs

Fruit mixture/salad for dessert
Topped (or not) with yogurt

Roasted turkey or chicken is a great starter, and then for sides baked yams not sweet though but with salt, pepper, garlic, and smart balance butter. Green bean casserole. Veggie salad or veggie tray. Bread rolls. Cake made with applesauce.
