I add things like fruit, cinnamon, nuts, soy milk, pure maple syrup. I heard some people cook it overnight in a crock pot and it supposed to come out creamier. I like my cereal very grainy.

I don't really like sweet oatmeal, so I rarely make it for breakfast. However, I just found a suggestion on this website to make savory oatmeal. Cook the oats then add pepper, a bit of cheese, an egg and scallions. Tried it and loved it!

I have made the steel cut oats and don't really like the texture of them. is there something i can do while cooking them to make them more like oatmeal or are they just something i will get used to as time goes on?

I add walnuts or pecans and dried fruit and top with almond milk, but I saw that some people scramble an egg with them and/or add bacon, diced ham etc. I have not tried the savory oats, but they sound good.

I usually have fruit and sometimes protein powder as well if I've had a mean strength workout the day before to help repair. Last night I baked some apples with cinnamon, brown sugar and a little butter for dessert and I cut up a leftover apple and put it in my oats - sooo good

I'm not a fan of sweet flavors for breakfast (usually). I make mine with a little cheese, salt and pepper. Maybe a dash of hot sauce. Kind of a healthier take on cheese grits.

I love to cook my steel cut oats with milk instead of water, and throw in a bunch of chopped, fresh strawberries...cook the berries along with the oatmeal. It becomes a big, creamy bowl of strawberries and cream yumminess! emoticon

I just made a baked version with steel-cut oats and fresh blueberries. It made enough that I was able to bring it to work for a few days. I have also read that you can make it with apples and cinnamon or with pumpkin.

in a sauce pan I add apples and cinnamon and 2TB of water and sometimes agave , depending on the type of apple I have. And cook until apples are tender and add to steel cut oats.

After they cook up, I beat an egg, mix that in and cook up until thick and 'set up', then I serve with cinnamon, 1 T maple syrup and 1/2 oz of chopped pecans or walnuts, maybe sliced banana, too.

soak them in yogurt over night, bake apples in a tray, add some honey, cinamon and sliced almonds to the oats and spread on the tray and bake for 30 mins.

I add blueberries and vanilla most of the time. Other times I add cinnamon, vanilla, and 2 Tbsp. of walnuts.

I add in vanilla extract and strawberries - yum! Sometimes I'll cook them in Vanilla Silk and add blueberries as well, or whatever frozen fruit I have lying around.

Try adding some unsweetened cocoa to them, then a measured amount of sweetner of your choice and topping with a tablespoon peanut butter.

Its tastes crazily decadent, but really good for you!

I love oatmeal/steel cut oats. I get in a rut with the same old breakfast. What do you add to your steel cut oats? Thanks
