That's how I established the exercise habit a few years ago. I started with 10 minutes per day, 3 times per week as my goal. Soon it was up to 20 minutes. Then, I upped it to 4-5 times per week, etc. Now I set my goal as 30 minutes, 5 times per week -- and I sometimes actually do a little more than that.
The important thing for me was to establish the regular HABIT before aiming for a whole bunch of minutes.
This was a rough, rough week, but I made it and stayed on track with my food. I was having some serious pain issues (chronic pain victim), but thankfully I've discovered why my ankles and hands were also swelling. For some reason I've developed an allergy to a medication I've taken for 20 years to help manage my pain and insomnia. Didn't need it all of the time, and only took it when the pain and insomnia would flare up. I'm just glad I was able to make the connection. My goal this week is to really get into a good exercise routine. I'm not going to go crazy but instead take it slow. Physical exercise is one of the best pain management tools there is. So I'm excited that I've stayed on track, that I'm being kind to myself with my good choices (I've even been drinking my water and NO COKE ZERO! Yay me! No one gets my coffee, though. I'd die for that.) This is a great encouragement along with all of you who are helping encourage me. I'm learning it's best to do these things together, right? Cheers to all of you, too.
I've been doing great with my food tracking; just having a hard time making myself work out! I'm going to do at least 10 minutes tonight. But I know I need more. Maybe 10 minutes tonight can turn into 15 or 20 by next week. My new attitude is the result of changing how I think about what I eat. I've decided to eat what I want and THEN track my food. I still keep my portions to acceptable servings, but I don't exclude anything. The tracking keeps me within my calorie/fat and other nutritional goals. This way I don't feel cheated (because I'm not 'dieting') and set myself up to fail. I'm looking at this as a way of life, not a temporary change. Maybe everyone else has figured this out already, but I didn't until now. I'm excited.
