I love spicey foods, especially curries. Right now I am still having some problems with GERD so I have to lay low.

hot peppers and cold water help to rev up your metabolism, even small steps forward at increasing ones metabolism is still a step forward!!! I saw put everything that works even if ever so slightly in your wheel house!!!

Thanks to all the folks who took the time to reply. I love spicy foods as long as they don't burn my mouth and I can't enjoy the flavor.

benefits are small, eat what you like

I like spicy foods so it's a nice concept. Unfortunately, it's probably more something that makes a magazine article than something that will show a lot of results over the course of a month.

It's true, but the benefits are small, and you adapt over time.
If you enjoy spicy foods, great. They're not going to give you a huge metabolic advantage, and they can increase acid reflux symptoms. They won't make the difference in fat loss if you're otherwise overeating, though.
this is one of those things that while technically true it has such a small impact that it's not worth doing if you aren't already doing it because you like it in the first place. we're talking maxing out at like five to ten calories a day. so if you already eat spicy foods, just be happy you're getting a tiny boost. and if you don't like spicy foods, don't suffer through them. taking a five minute walk will pretty much burn more calories than eating spicy food.

Is it true that spicy foods boost the metabolism? If so, how often, how much?
